We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanelle Norman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanelle, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Southwest Philadelphia , a very rough area that is increasingly going down. Crime levels Are through the roof and its challenging to beat the odds. I was taught the only way out was to hustle your way out! But all the hustles I saw led to jail or death, and neither was a option for me. So I started branching out and picking up little side hustles like selling clothes out my aunt trunk, innocents & oils, phones, Cd’s and whatever money flip hustle I ran across. People started calling me the Plug. Then after moving to Atlanta in 1996 I started assisting my mother in opening her Med training school. I learned a professional way to entrepreneurship. Later  I met a lady that introduced me to the tax industry, she taught me some unethical practices, that I quickly corrected. I discovered really quickly the need for trust worthy passionate people in my field. I knew it was my responsibility to create that platform for my people. So I went in hard and began self teaching myself. Then I began to take classes and seminars all over. I gained a new Mentor and she took me under her wing and gave me an opportunity. Taxes became my world. Then I started learning that it’s bigger than taxes, I have an obligation to train my people on how to improve their credit.  I also gained a passion to help other small business owners get grants and loans. Next I wanted to provide the community with insurance so I started training in insurance and became licensed. I was trying to live up to my previous given name the Plug! In 2017 I opened Plugged In Tax Associates LLC. I am the Financial Plug of Atlanta. We are credentialed to handle all your financial and business development needs. We serve all 50 states and offer virtual appointment’s as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to fogo de chao, Sugar Factory, and most likely Busy Bees soul food. We would most definitely swing by Rahim’s seafood on Campbellton road. My favorite place to visit is Marietta diner and Marietta fish market. I don’t do the club or bar atmosphere too much but I like reggae clubs so we are stopping by footprints club in Decatur and The Royal Peacock.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to Shout Out Misha and Mitchell Milam of TAFS. Misha has been my mentor the whole way through. She has always encouraged me. She always set me up with a platform for success. She is a business partner/mentor but also a sister! The Milam’s are very successful business entrepreneurs, they own several tax offices, Real estate agencies, truck companies, and more. They pay back to the community by offering mentorship and direction. They also do food drives, cloth drives, back to school drives and so much more for the community. These are Wonderful trustworthy people. Contributing my success God first, my mother, Mitchell and Misha Milam, Marvin Peters, my children Makayla, Marcus, and Jason. My Aunt Eunice Butts is my number one motivator. My uncle James Butts and late father Wendell Perkins taught me many life lessons. Last but definitely not lease shout out to my clients, and family and friend supporters. I love you all . Come Get Plugged In. Pluggedintax.com
