We had the good fortune of connecting with Scotte Mac and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scotte, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I tried in the past to run a couple labels and it just didn’t work out. I worked for 2 labels before (I will leave their names out) and I saw how the artists were not only getting messed over by these labels but they were also being lied to and not given any kind of knowledge to help the artist’s maybe one day start their own label. I wanted to offer all the knowledge I had to help out other artists. It was amazing to me how many artist’s never knew about publishing, copyrights, music law, etc.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets us as a label apart is we care about the artists career and have no problem with sharing knowledge to help any artist move on to possible bigger and better opportunities. I would have to say one of the most proud moments was when we landed 2 licensing deals within 2 months of starting the label, that was a good moment there. We were all very excited about landing a placement in Clout the Movie for our song About You. It wasn’t a easy road as most people know the music business isn’t friendly to say the least. I owned and operated an online radio station for almost 10 years and when your on the media side of the music business, YOU SEE ALOT!!!!!! I got to this point from simply being consistent and observant. Having the team I have around me we had a few challenges here and there but we all have been in the business apart from one another for years. We were able to not make alot of the detrimental mistakes alot of labels and or artists make. One of the biggest lessons I learned was to pay attention to the game but at the same time do YOUR thing. There is a market for everything! You can carve out your piece of history without trying to me like someone else. Dalladda is Somali for “umbrella” I knew we had to do something different name wise and it fit. I want the world to know that name was picked for a real reason, to help the artists come out of the lava rain the industry can spray on you. Come to us and we teach along with taking the artists music to new fanbases. I want artists to know you can do it to. ANYTHING is possible and even more possible with a little help.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I lived in Atlanta some years back before the 5 lane highways lol, it’s changed so much when I go back I’m amazed!! I love the crab joint called What’s Crackin’ EVERYTIME I go, I stop there!! I travel in between a few states and cities now but to come see me in one spot, I’m in a tri-state area so definitely alot of sightseeing. Most people have never seen real Amish people, tasted their food or any of that so that’s a trip within itself. I love cooking and since I’ve lived so many different places I picked up alot of culinary skills lol, definitely bbq’n and cooking. Shoot up to my hometown Detroit, MI for those that haven’t been and as all Detroiter’s do, taking them to Coney Island. Everybody ends up loving that. There is so much to do in Detroit you can literally do something different every single day. The label is based out of Detroit but I am in the Appalachian Mountains everyone who does visit falls in love with the peace and quiet along with the scenery. The mountains are a different place but I’ve fallen in love with it.
