We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasha Fierro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sasha, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is show kids of color that you can make a name for yourself and break generational cycles of being “working class” you just need to believe in yourself and keep going even though there will be many bumps in the road! I want to leave an empire for my daughter and for the community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all I’m half Chilean and Mexican which both countries are rich in art and creatives. I come from a working class immigrant family, there wasn’t always extra money but I loved making things look beautiful with what we had, my creative side started showing at an early age, first with wardrobe styling my little brothers and decorating the house…I never went to school for art or design, school really wasn’t for me, I was more of a hustler and hands on kind of person, I loved surround myself with people I could learn from, I had the opportunities to work for some incredible strong successful business women who are also immigrants like me . I always knew one day I would be a successful creative.. I’ve always loved flowers and plants, I grew up going back home to Chile with my grandparents where they had the most beautiful garden with so many different types of plants and flowers.

I truly believe you can speak things into existence, I always knew I would get out of the rough neighborhood I grew up and I did, I always said I’m going to make a name for myself and show my Latin community that we can come to this country and build a name for ourselves and be successful creatives and I’m doing that, I only started being self employed 2 years go after the father of my child decided to leave us, with no money and an empty apartment , I was in a really rough spot mentally and emotionally, I was now a single mother in a big City with no family, but my community came together and a good friend introduced me Eva and Heather who own Tulip Blooming Creations and I went in for an interview and was completely honest with then, I told them my background is in interior design/decor and Fashion and I only did flower arrangements for clients In Park City, Utah when work for an interior designer but I always wanted to get into Floral Design and they hired me right away and had me start designing and I met Cliff who is one of their go-to floral designers, there was something about him, his energy and I asked him if he would take me under his wing and show me how to design and he did and I owed everything to Tulip and Cliff, because my life has changed in so many was since they came into my life.

Fast forward March 13, 2020 was one of the hardest and scariest days of my life, I was let go, well because the pandemic, like mention early on , I don’t come from money, which means I don’t have the option of running to mommy and daddy for Financial help, so my incredible neighbor at the time and now best friend Laura has always believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, she Constant hyped me up and was telling to start my own floral design Business, I was scared shitless, I’ve always had insecurities because well I’m a brown immigrant women that grew up in a rough neighborhood, and never thought anyone would take me seriously. Laura helped me apply for grants, I got denied but that didn’t stop me. I learned I needed to take the risk and invest in myself and show my daughter who is 1st generation American , that her mommy is making name for herself and paving the way for a better future for my daughter, where shes not going to have to go through all the struggles I been in my almost 32 years of living and show her that you can do what you love! 27 Floral Design is just the beginning and I want to Say Atlanta inspires Me everyday! Being a person of color and seeing people of color be business owners and successful gives me chills everyday!

It’s a big risk to be self employed and to start your own business, but you got to have the drive, ambition, dedication.

My biggest motivation is my Daughter, I know all the hard work and sacrifice will pay off one day, it already is!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends from Utah come and visit me I take them to Old Fourth Ward… I take them to Dr. Kings area, because that is very special to me, I like to show them the raw Atlanta the west end area, East Atlanta.

I’m huge on supporting local, right now my favorite place to take my friends is Supermo (best tacos in ATL) anywhere on Buford hwy.

Places to visit, believe it or not I take them to the dekalb farmers market (we don’t have anything like that in Utah)

I’m a nature girl, so I like to take my friends hiking at Black Rock Mountain.
