We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasha Beckford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sasha, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by my own experience, family, friends and my culture. I think about what my experience was walking into an establishment. Was it a pleasant experience or does that establishment need some work. I use that experience as my inspiration to make my business better and stand out. I also get inspiration for my business from my family and friends. If they like a certain dish but can’t find the time to make the dish. I research the flavors of the dish and different recipes to create my own recipes, to surprise them with said dish. I am also inspired by my culture and where I am from because I am able to embrace every small thing around me and make them into something magnificent. Growing up poor we used all our resources, nothing was to be wasted. Everything was to be repurposed into something better.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I want to highlight my cooking and meal prepping business “Sasha B Plates”. What sets me apart from others is the dishes I offer, as well as the flavor and the eye appealing branding. I am most proud of the support I am receiving from everyone on Instagram. I am also excited about where my cooking and meal prepping will take me and who i could reach. I am still growing as a business, and I try to get as much exposure as I can. I post a lot of reels on Instagram, these reels started out with me simply cooking and showing the steps along the way I take to create my meals. I then started to sell plates as a side hustle after family and friends encouraged me to do so. I hope to grow where I can turn into a food truck or even a restaurant. The lesson I would say I am learning along the way is that people will watch you but never support you. The ones that are close to you won’t come out and support you but it’s the ones that are in different states that aren’t close by that are ready to support. They never met me a day in their life or interacted with me but want to support me, I am just not in their state. I hope to one day open multiple locations so this dream can come true. I want the world to know that I am innovative, creative and I am always evolving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not a city girl I don’t get out much, I am homebody but. I have been a few places that I can recommend lol. A nice morning breakfast at “First Watch” the one in Tucker, Ga would be my first stop. Coffee from Starbucks a pumpkin spice latte since we are in that season. I am not too familiar with the coffee at first watch but girls do love a good Starbucks! for Lunch it would have to be Jinya Ramen in Sandy Springs, right next door to Jinya is a Boba tea place I would stop by. For night life or dinner honestly anything in downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta Zoo is nice or the aquarium. Honestly that’s about it, these are my highly recommended places to visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank my best friend and business partner Desiree. She has been more than helpful, supportive and a shoulder to cry on than she will ever know. I am forever grateful for our friendship and partnership. I would like to thank my Dad Gee, seeing my dad work his butt off growing up did something for me. I want to thank him for taking me with him to America to have a better life, I don’t know where my story would be without my dad. He is my story; he is part of the reason I am who I am today. He is my biggest inspiration; I am so proud of him and in this lifetime, I want to return the favor and make him proud. I will forever be proud of him.
