Meet Sanchild | Rapper, Singer, & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sanchild and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sanchild, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been inclined to music and I can hugely credit that to there always being music playing in my house growing up. Literally from day till night, music would be playing and sometimes everybody would just blast their music all at once. which I found hilarious and ridiculous. I started freestyle rapping when I was 9 years old and it was something that I found joy in, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pursue music as a career until I was 17. Although I had already begun making music prior, I still had contemplation of whether or not It’d be something I’d dedicate my life to. What really opened my eyes is that I couldn’t stop writing music and making beats so I thought this must be what God intended for me to do because it kept coming so naturally to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other artists in my genre is my ability to connect to an older and younger audience. Since I was a child I was exposed to a lot of older music and this has allowed me to have a deep appreciation for all generations of music, which in return has influenced my own music.
I’m most excited about performing my music with a live band in front of 10,000 people. I know that’s very specific but it’s one of the things I really want to experience.
I got to where I am by staying focused, taking time to educate myself, and taking initiative.
I often get asked by other artists who are starting their music journey “How do I sing like you?” or “How do I rap like you?” I tell them first of all don’t try to sing like me, find your own sound. The reason I’m able to sing/rap the way I do now is because I would practice singing and rapping every day I had the chance to. I believe you must treat this craft like a sport if you really want to excel at it. You’ll have to condition your body to perform, you’ll have to take care of your vocal chords, and you’ll have to put in hours to develop yourself. Especially when you’re an independent artist because when you’re starting out, no one’s going to be there telling you what to do. You just have to take initiative.
The hardest part about being an artist would be killing my expectations, because what used to affect me the most is when I expected things to go one way but they ended up going another. So I’m in the process of learning to just keep pushing without expectations being my motivation.
I think the practice and conditioning is the easier part of being an artist because I enjoy honing my skills and being able to wake up the next day better than I was before.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that hard work will always pay off. When you first start it’ll feel as if the results aren’t mirroring your expectations, but the experience is what will prepare you for your journey. Another lesson I’ve learned is there’s some things you’ll have to do yourself and not depend on someone else to do it for you. I’ve taken time to learn new editing softwares, music programs, or instruments just for the sake of achieving my goals. Remember the internet could be your teacher but you have to use it wisely when it comes to learning new skillsets. Don’t just depend on one source for your information. Explore different outlets so you can receive as many perspectives as possible.
What I want the world to know is that my brand is about trying to become a better version of yourself whether that through ethics, health, consciousness, or behavior. But, my brand is also about having fun and not taking yourself too seriously all of the time. My story is continuously being written, but from the experiences I’ve had so far I hope it can bring motivation to people who are experiencing life just as I am.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For music activities you definitely have to go to the city(Manhattan) or Brooklyn because there’s always somebody doing a pop up show there. Another great quality about the city is that there’s various cultures that you can experience so if you’re into that you’d definitely enjoy it. There’s just so many activities to do like go to MOMA museum, New York Botanical Garden, a comedy show, or get some food off the grill on the roadside. I tend to like spending time in nature if I’m going out, so if you’re not a city person I would recommend going to Harriman State Park for a chill hike. With the exception of the bugs of course so bring some bug spray.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a huge shoutout to Billboard Charting Artist/Producer Homiletix. Not only has he been so generous to give me the opportunity to feature on his track “The Process”, he has also been so helpful by guiding me throughout the industry so that I can find my own success even as an independent artist. I’m absolutely grateful for his help and I look forward to our future collaborations.
I’d also love to give a special shoutout to my family and friends but especially my mother. My mother has constantly been there for me not just in life but with me pursuing my career. She is one of the main pistons behind me continuing to make music because of her non stop support and being an open ear to my decisions. I also thank my mother for raising me to have a great work ethic and to not let anyone tell me I can’t achieve something.
