We had the good fortune of connecting with Samya Houessou and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samya, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that consistency, planning and revaluation is the key to successful results regarding any project. I’ve learned that carefully planing, learning to take failures as lessons, fixing mistakes and continuing the project can bring prosperous results for anything I do in life, no matter how small or large the task.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of the brand I’ve built around my business . Over the last few years, I sold anything you could think of. I had such a hard time finding a niche, so I could never stay consistent with any of my ideas. I finally decided to name my business “ShopFromMya’ so anything I decide to sell or launch will still fit under this brand name. Also trying to build my social media platform, I wanted to keep my business name similar to my social media handles. My instagram is “myafromig” so I knew I wanted to keep the word “from” in the middle. It took a lot of work to actually build my brand to where it is today. My struggles peaked within the first few months of launching my business. I probably got one sale within the first three months of me launching my website. After a while, I knew I needed to take my ideas back to the drawing board and renovate my product and ideas. I needed to focus more on what appealed to my audience and improving the quality of my products. If I could tell the world anything about my brand, it would be that everything I sell is personally picked, designed and tested by me. I would never sell or offer anything I would not use or purchase myself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would start at my favorite restaurant downtown, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks, then I would go for a short ride on Skyview Atlanta for a stunning view of the city which is just a couple of minutes away. Then I would probably head to Little Five Points just to shop around.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would give a shoutout to @Sierra_glamshop_ on Instagram. Watching her videos and posts encouraged me to stay consistent with my business and reminding me that hard work will always bring good results.
