Meet Renegade Film Festival | Annual film festival

We had the good fortune of connecting with Renegade Film Festival and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renegade, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
We make our community and the world a better place by creating an environment where everybody feels welcome and feels comfortable and confident to allow their authentic self to be put on display through their art.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Film Freeway is currently the largest and most popular platform for film festivals. There are over 14k registered film festivals on Film Freeway. This amount is almost double what it was when we launched our event in 2017. I say all of that to express how crucial it is for a festival to stand out from the rest, otherwise, you get lost in an oversaturated sea of events. We knew from the beginning that the only thing that would separate us from the herd would be our authenticity and drive to shine a spotlight on all the voices that had been overlooked in the industry. Our inaugural festival, The Women in Horror Film Festival, opened during the peak of the #MeToo movement, reinforcing the need for equality, safety, and inclusion, especially in the genre space. As we grew, so did our mission, allowing us to evolve by rebranding into The Renegade Film Festival. As important as it was to amplify women’s voices, we knew there were other voices that needed to be heard, and we knew if we worked together to raise them all, it would be a pretty loud roar.
Our biggest challenge has been getting the word out to filmmakers, screenwriters, and movie fans that we are here. Independent film festivals are grassroots events that rely solely on the support of sponsors and the community in order to exist. There is a wild misconception by the public that film festivals are cash cows. This is far from accurate and why it’s so crucial that we spread the word and get others involved. We’ve created something special and we want to share it with the world. To quote ‘Field of Dreams’, “if you build it, they will come.” We’ve built it…
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Shopping, we would hit Little 5 Points and definitely check out Junkman’s Daughter.
Food, so many great options but maybe swing into Ponce City Market for the variety.
Entertainment, we’d see a movie at the Plaza or the Tara and definitely check out Videodrome because it’s a must-see for any cinephile.
If they were visiting during the Renegade Film Fest, we’d be at the Strand Theatre and enjoying all the shops and restaurants on the Marietta Square.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to dedicate our shoutout to anyone who has been overlooked or has ever felt, less than…you’re so much more and we see you! To all of those underrepresented voices, we hear you and we want to celebrate you!
