We had the good fortune of connecting with Remy Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Remy, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up, I was averse to risk and never strayed too far from the path my parents had always encouraged me to take – the path of education. You couldn’t convince me that I wasn’t supposed to go to school for the rest of my life. That’s not to say I missed out on any fun. I took part in my fair share of sleepovers, went on field trips, acted in school plays, choreographed performances for talent shows… but being in school was never a burden. Learning was always something I craved and something that no one could take away.

Fast forward to my life after college as an adult – being thrust into the real world of bills and student loan debt. After experiencing the normalcy and often mundane routine of the corporate world, I longed for something more. I needed to balance things out and tap into my right brain. So, I decided to pursue an old love of photography. In 2016, I started my photography business.

I decided to name my business Around the Way Group LLC based on the ideology that I was a regular young woman from around the way whose mission was to find joy and beauty in the moments that weren’t on purpose. Specializing in event photography, I pride myself on capturing those special inimitable unposed moments.

As I look back, risk was associated with failure… now it’s associated with my creative side. I have no intention of failing.

However, it has been a crazy ride thus far.

But I have no regrets.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been in the healthcare field for over 10 years educating others on their benefits and retirement plans. I graduated in 2009 from University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and received a Master’s in Business Administration degree from Brandman University in 2015. My entrepreneurial profile looks a lot different from others as I still work a full-time job in healthcare and greatly enjoy it. I find time for photography in my downtime and on the weekends. I’ve learned along the way that your journey is unique and you can’t allow others to influence your walk as it is extremely personal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not as familiar with Atlanta as I’d like to be so I’d rely on my cousin and friends to drag me around. They know what I like! I’m at my happiest when I’m around good food, good music, and attractive men.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents know me better than I know myself. They are my best friends and have remained perfectly imperfect role models throughout my entire life. They are the reason I am the way I am and I have to thank them for continuously pushing me on my entrepreneurial journey thus far. I also have a close-knit group of family and friends who encourage me when I’m at my lowest.
