We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Dinkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is knowing that it wasn’t going to be easy at first but knowing that persistence, dedication and old fashioned elbow grease are needed for success. Don’t give up even when it may seem challenging. I learned early on to have passion in your endeavor. Success will come but it requires a tremendous amount of hard work, drive and sleepless nights. It is bigger than someone whose goal is strictly to make money. You need to be able to have passion so you can be impactful to your audience because the customers can tell if the company has passion and really wants to deliver a quality product. And this will help you succeed and withstand any obstacle. I have always had a passion for entrepreneurship. Having majored in Fashion Marketing and Management, I had a passion for the beauty & fashion industry. This led me to research the hair care industry, which is an $87 billion industry. Growing up I dealt with eczema and having an extremely dry flaky scalp. My hair texture was thick and coarse. Most products couldn’t really control the frizz, dryness and flakiness all in one simple hair care system. So I decided to research and find the right ingredients to formulate one hair care system that not only worked well with color treated hair, but was also organic and vegan friendly. During the Covid-19 pandemic I decided it was time to fully invest into starting this company and the rest is history.

What should our readers know about your business?

RACHEL INDIRA LLC sets itself apart from other hair care brands. Rachel, the CEO & Founder, has spent many years searching for the perfect hair care line that gives all hair types unique strength, glow and shine. Not only are we delivering results of healthy hair but we incorporate high quality ingredients that are free from Sulfates, Parabens, PEGs, Dyes, and Mineral Oils. We are vegan-friendly and animal cruelty-free. Rachel has worked closely to create the perfect formula for healthy hair. With Rachel’s results and expertise, the desire for RACHEL INDIRA hair care line is why we want to stay ahead of our competition. Many friends and customers want the same results that we have discovered as well as a clean Hair Care Brand.

We overcame so many challenges, especially starting our company during the height of the pandemic. I was faced with limited resources such as low, raw materials from manufacturers. When we first Launched in June of 2020 officially online, we sold out within 48 hours and had to reassure customers that restock would be coming soon! It was definitely challenging as we had to meet the needs of our supply & demand.

Our exciting  success would be again selling out of our products within 48 hours! I had no idea my very first launch would turn out to be a tremendous success especially during these unprecedented times. However, we have been receiving so much love and support from other companies who are featuring us and also marketing us on their platforms. It has truly been a blessing to have this exposure. We are grateful for all of our customers as well as the features from other brands that are reaching out and speaking highly of our products. Receiving 5-star reviews on our products and selling out of all products now has truly been a humbling moment and we will continue serving and making our clients a top priority.

Our vision for the brand is to keep elevating and evolving. This also includes adding more products to the collection as well as extending hair care accessories. I don’t necessarily see myself having a brick and mortar store as retail is also evolving. Our foundation is our online community and our customers who love the easy access of logging onto a computer and ordering directly from us. However we are going to eventually expand to include vending machines which will be easily accessible for travelers at airports, hotels and shopping malls.

I want people to know that our story is all about showing that anything is possible with hard work and dedication while delivering a quality product. Dreams are achievable!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

This is funny because every time I have friends  come into town I definitely have a fun packed weekend of showcasing our great city! I love to eat and check out the latest restaurants in Atlanta. Atlanta is known for great hidden gems all around the city. One of my favorite is to go to spots at Le Colonial in Buckhead which is a must-see restaurant that I highly recommend. The vibe and atmosphere are right and just a great way to connect and network.

Another one of my favorite places is The Blind Pig Parlour Bar which is an intimate and sophisticated speakeasy. I recently celebrated a birthday there and had so much fun with my friends . And of course you can’t forget about The Battery which has so many bars and restaurants and just a great place to chill and hangout. Lately my friends  and I have been going to virtual pop up museums like the Illuminarium Atlanta which features a cool virtual safari experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My journey for Rachel Indira Hair Care has led me to be thankful and grateful for the many people that I have been able to work with and they have been able to see me grow. One of my mentors was my long time hair stylist Terry Parrish. She is an outstanding hair stylist and I know her knowledge and advice have assisted tremendously with this company. She gave me great advice and really gave me that push to pursue this new journey in the hair care industry.

I also want to dedicate this article to my creative team who have been here  since day 1 and have been a vital part of our growth. I have Brittney Mullins who is my main photographer for the Rachel Indira campaigns and product shoots. She knows and understands my vision and executes that very well. My creative director Tanisha Johnson is my right-hand woman and she delivers my story through the campaign. I trust her expertise when telling my story and vision. And the rest of my creative team Oliver Adams, Jarvis Jerel and Taraya Johnson all play an intricate part in executing my vision. Rachel Indira wouldn’t be where it is today without all of their hard work and dedication.
