We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Marlow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, what do you attribute your success to?
Thanks for this shoutout interview and you have asked an interesting question. The word success is described as attaining a favorable or desired outcome. This word and its definition can be determined by several measures depending on the situation. Some would say that success in business is measured by the bottom line or amount of profit a company has during a specific amount of time while others may look at a certain number of clients or increase in revenue year over year. While all of these are important aspects in keeping a business viable that is not the way I measure success. STRAIGHTEN UP by Paige is a small single owner company providing high end organization services to an exclusive clientele. Almost all of the business is referral or repeat customers. Therefore the success of my business is measured by customer satisfaction. When a customer calls for organization services the first thing I do is meet with them one on one in their home or office that they need organizing. We have a discussion about their individual likes and dislikes and their personal preferences but most importantly I want to understand what “successful organization” of their space means to them. We also discuss budget restraints and what outcome they can expect for the amount of money they want to spend. I take pictures and re-imagine in my mind what would work best in the clients individual situation. I also take measurements of the space and plan in advance how the space will look when I am finished. When I show up to do a Straighten Up by Paige project I am prepared with the proper supplies and tools needed to exceed the clients expectations. So success to me is exceeding the clients expectations one client at a time.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more? What sets you apart from others?
STRAIGHTEN UP by Paige is a full-service home organization company specializing in creating stylish and functional spaces through the art of organization. STRAIGHTEN UP by Paige is based in Atlanta, but available nationwide. I currently have clients in Atlanta, Birmingham, Miami, Nashville, New York and several tourist destinations. My clients are all so different with many different goals and priorities. I work with fashionistas wanting to create a glamorous and organized closet space, organizing pantries for moms trying to stay sane while managing a household full of kids and work for home professionals desiring an organized and stylish workspace. The uniqueness of each client makes my job fun and exciting. I moved to Atlanta just after I completed my Masters in Financial Planning from the University of Alabama in December of 2007. While I was looking for a job in the financial planning field, I decided to make a little money on the side by helping my neighbors with errand running, pet sitting, cleaning and organizing. I put flyers on my neighbor’s mailboxes and the calls started coming in much quicker than I anticipated. Once I landed my first job in financial planning, I decided to keep my little business going but only focus on organizing. It started out slow but as I made new friends and contacts in Atlanta the business started to grow more and more each year. Being originally from Nashville and going to school in Alabama as social media progressed so did my business and locations of clients and projects. Many of my clients have second homes and many are going through changes in life with new babies and starting a family. No matter what stage in life they are, it is a joy to help them get organized and enjoy the spaces in their homes that have been a point of frustration in the past. Every project is custom tailored for the client’s personal needs and I am flexible so I can travel to various destinations. While my home is in Atlanta, I enjoy helping clients with projects all over the country. I believe this flexibility is what sets me apart from other organizing companies in the Atlanta area.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to come in town, we would hit all of my favorite boutique fitness studios in the mornings, have afternoons full of shopping, piddling around on the Beltline, maybe an afternoon cocktail on a fun patio and then hit all my favorite restaurants each night. My favorite boutique fitness studios: Solcioty, Pace Atlanta, Blast, Exhale, and West Coast Workout. My favorite restaurants: Anis, Umi, Storico, A Mano and Barcelona Wine Bar.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe so much of my success to my family and friends. They have all given me great amounts of encouragement and support when I have felt like giving up. However, my biggest mentor / cheerleader is my mom. My mom ran a successful business for over 25 years and as I walk through different stages of my business, she has always been there to support me in making the best decisions for my company. There are also so many others I could name individually but most of all I owe my gratitude to my clients. Each one of them have helped me build my business. They have offered referrals, given me repeat business, have given so much encouragement and have challenged me by providing so many different organization opportunities.
