Meet Nsambya Furniture Workshop | Furniture Designer, Manufacturer & Football Team Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nsambya Furniture Workshop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nsambya Furniture, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Nsambya Furniture Workshop is our unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and community. From day one, we set out to create furniture that is not only beautiful and durable but also a reflection of Ugandan artistry and culture. Every piece we produce is handcrafted with precision, using the finest materials, while blending timeless craftsmanship with modern design trends.

What should our readers know about your business?
Nsambya Furniture Workshop is a proudly Ugandan, award-winning furniture brand founded by Ssegujja Ivan, a visionary entrepreneur and master furniture designer born on April 8, 2000, in Mukono, Kampala. Ivan started the workshop with a bold mission to blend Uganda’s rich tradition of handcrafted furniture with modern design innovation.
The business was officially registered in Uganda as Nsambya Furniture Workshop, and from the very beginning, it positioned itself as a leader in custom furniture manufacturing. What began as a small-scale operation serving a handful of clients has now grown into a recognized name trusted by homeowners, institutions, and corporate clients across the country.
We specialize in luxury, custom-made furniture from living room and bedroom sets to office installations and bespoke interior solutions. Every piece is meticulously handcrafted by a skilled team of artisans trained in both traditional carpentry techniques and modern design trends. Our workshop is committed to using high-quality, responsibly sourced materials and delivering pieces that combine durability, elegance, and timeless appeal.
One of the things that makes Nsambya Furniture Workshop truly unique is its deep connection to the community. We are not just a brand; we are a movement. In addition to our core furniture business, we are proud owners of Nsambya Furniture Workshop FC, a football team that symbolizes our values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. The team competes locally, serving as both a platform for nurturing talent and a way of giving back to the community that has supported us.
Our journey has not been without challenges from navigating stiff competition in the furniture industry to overcoming the supply chain disruptions caused by global events. However, by staying true to our founding values, investing in innovation, and building lasting relationships with customers, we have turned challenges into opportunities.
The lessons learned along the way are clear: quality and integrity always win, community is a business’s greatest strength, and persistence pays off.
Today, Nsambya Furniture Workshop is known not only for its products but for its story a story of humble beginnings, creative passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Our brand is proof that with vision, hard work, and a commitment to both craft and community, a Ugandan business can stand out on the global stage.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Uganda for a week, I’d make sure they experience the perfect mix of culture, adventure, food, and relaxation the true heart of our country.
Day 1 – Welcome to Kampala
We’d start with a personal tour of Nsambya Furniture Workshop, where they can see our artisans at work and maybe even try their hand at crafting something small to take home as a souvenir. From there, we’d enjoy lunch at The Lawns Restaurant in Kololo, where they can try game meat dishes in a beautiful garden setting. In the evening, we’d relax with live music at Café Javas Lugogo or Zone 7.
Day 2 – History & Heritage
We’d visit the Uganda Museum, Kabaka’s Palace, and the Kasubi Tombs to connect with Uganda’s rich history. Lunch would be at 2K Restaurant for some authentic local dishes like luwombo and matoke. We’d wrap up with a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria from Ggaba.
Day 3 – Nature Escape
We’d drive to Mabira Forest for zip-lining and nature walks. Later, we’d head to Jinja to see the Source of the Nile and enjoy some white-water rafting or a calmer boat ride, depending on their mood. Dinner would be at Jinja Sailing Club overlooking the lake.
Day 4 – Wildlife & Adventure
We’d take a road trip to Lake Mburo National Park or Queen Elizabeth National Park for a safari, spotting zebras, giraffes, elephants, and more. Overnight in a safari lodge under the stars for the full experience.
Day 5 – Community & Sports
Back in Kampala, we’d spend the morning visiting local markets like Owino Market for vibrant crafts and fabrics. In the afternoon, I’d take them to watch a match with Nsambya Furniture Workshop FC nothing beats the excitement of local football with cheering fans.
Day 6 – Culinary Tour
We’d dedicate the day to tasting Kampala’s best food spots starting with breakfast at Endiro Coffee, street food at Nakasero Market, and dinner at The Bistro in Kisementi. In the evening, we’d explore the nightlife at Cayenne or Sky Lounge for a rooftop view of the city lights.
Day 7 – Relax & Reflect
We’d close the week with a calm day at Speke Resort Munyonyo, enjoying the lakeside breeze, swimming pools, and spa treatments before a farewell dinner of Ugandan barbecue at The Gardens Najjera.
Uganda is full of beautiful surprises from its warm people to its vibrant culture and I’d make sure my friend left feeling like they’d seen not just the famous places, but the heart of the country.
