We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about taking a risk as a means of elevation. In my career as a fashion designer/model taking risk has played a huge role for me. I’ve pushed myself beyond my comfort zone, mixing fabrics, being photographed in boudoir, networking and meeting new people. Normally these were things that I would talk myself out of, from fear of rejection. Because I’ve taken these chances and pushed the envelope I’m seeing more opportunities and I’ve learned that just when I’m ready to give up, that’s when my breakthrough happens.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since my teenage years I’ve always wanted to be a Fashion Designer. I even attended Bauder College of Fashion Design in Atlanta, GA. But… life happened, I started my family and got married, basically putting me on the back burner. By chance or the Grace of God my oldest daughter was into modeling. One day while taking her for an audition I was asked to audition. Low and behold I MADE THE CUT and so did my daughter. From that day forward I was pulled into the Fashion world modeling all over the country and internationally. Modeling allowed me to meet talented designers like Rhonda Baker and it reignited my dreams of becoming a designer. So I took a risk! I bought a sewing machine and birthed Nicole B. Designs UnDaunted in 2015!! From there I’ve expanded my brand to include edgy gowns #NicCouture and lingerie #ThickUMS with swimsuits #DeepSwimwear.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmm..if my best friend and I were visiting the Atlanta area I would definitely have to take her to the Slutty Vegan for lunch. Lol, we both like to eat! After lunch we’d do our second favorite thing and go shopping at Lennox Mall. I can’t leave out our adventurous side, we would definitely take a hike in beautiful Stone Mountain.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely!! First off all things are possible through Jesus Christ who is my Lord and Saviour that strengthens me. Secondly, I’d like to give a very special shout out to my dear friend Rhonda Baker who recently passed away on August 16, 2021 due to COVID-19.

Rhonda showed me so much support when I doubted myself. Her encouragement and words of wisdom are instilled within me. Rhonda being a talented designer herself of Designs By Rhonda Baker showing love and being a fan of my talents is a huge compliment. Rhonda even selected me to be the face of her 1st book “Curvy” and allow myself as well as other models to tell their stories. You can find “Curvy” on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Curvy-Rhonda-Baker/dp/B099C8S3NH/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=curvy+rhonda+baker&qid=1629631326&sprefix=curvy+rhon&sr=8-3
