We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Howrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi nick, what principle do you value most?
To stay in a constant fascination of the world and pursuit of knowledge and information. This remains a core tenant of my day to day living. If your aren’t fascinated with how the world rotates, its people, history, cultures, etc and if your not trying to understand humanity throughout these channels then your limiting both the recognizable possibilities of your capabilities and your ability to coexist, contribute, and appreciate life in the confines of the human condition.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
These days i’m playing almost exclusively in bar corners across the rivers and roads of Georgia. What currently excites me the most is continuing the relationship with my booking agent whom I met several months ago. Francisco Vidal is his name. He’s been in the industry for awhile and someone I hope one day to be as talented as. He’d make an excellent candidate for an interview. Getting to where I am now required a tremendous and forever ongoing development period’. Finding your will power to be strong enough to be in a continuous pursuit of your passion and aspiring to be as good if not better than your musical heros. This is a bit of a pandoras box and is like chasing a mirage. Really its not possible but its in this pursuit you end up taking yourself to new landscapes that your the first to discover. You become your own thing. Trying to nail down what makes me me is a difficult task. But off the cuff, I think my approach of infusing jams via a looper pedal into a multitude of genres is one thing. Playing a bit of everything from Country to classics from reggae to the 90s. I tend to get bored easy when i’m not challenging myself on guitar so as a result of that I always try and play everything just a little different. With a little more feel and a little less structure.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well depends on the friend. I lived in a bus for a few years and some of my closest friends have come from that. I’d try and take them on a bit of a road trip. Take them to the blue ridge mountains to hike. Continuing north, perhaps chattanooga or better, Nashville! I’d try in get them on bikes on the belt line in Atlanta. Ride up to piedmont park and from there the sweet water brewery. Maybe Edgewood at night or the battery. Little 5 points and fox brothers bbq on honorable mentions. as well as DT Roswell and Alpharetta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother who taught me critical thinking at an early age as well as being responsible in general for the ways in which I was raised. I believe her experience in early childhood education was fundamental in the nurturing construction of my neuro pathways. My father for introducing me to the world of music. Playing it, and diving into the musicians and bands of the past that forged the pathways for modern genres. I’d also want to give shout out to the advent of AirPods. I use these frequently and almost always when doing something that requires little cognitive focus. It is through the AirPods that i intake a lot of the things and ideas I’m interested in learning and expanding my thinking about. Usually in the form of podcasts.
