We had the good fortune of connecting with Nakita Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nakita, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite affirmation quotes is “I am the author of my own story”. That resonates with me because it’s true for every human on this earth. We are all authors of our own life story and we control how each chapter will turn out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Becoming an esthetician was easy but life after graduating has definitely has its challenges. Especially being my own boss as funny as that sounds I literally have to give myself lists of things to do so that my business, my brand and myself are aligning with what I envisioned. Having a work/life balance is very important and I say that because when I leave the spa that doesn’t mean I’m done for the day. My work comes home with me and I’m constantly thinking about what I could or need to do. Setting time aside to really enjoy myself is a must and I feel every entrepreneur feels the same. Another challenged I faced is letting go of my full time job as a certified surgical technician. I could easily take out loans to support myself and business but at the moment I would like to hold out as long as I can and that’s okay.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, I don’t like being in charge of taking on the tour guide role BUT I do have a list of places to visit and fun things to do. So what I would do is ask my best friend what she would like to do and throw out some options basically letting her decide.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hands down, my best friend Sade Johnson deserves a shoutout and I thank her every chance I get. Before I decided to become an Esthetician, Sade has always pushed me to want more or motivate me. To be honest we do the same for one another and always have each other backs. But if it wasn’t for her always saying “ My medspa is going to need a esthetician, I’m hiring for an esthetician, You should look up esthetician schools” and me actually finding the right program for me while in Phoenix, AZ I wouldn’t be in my career right now. So huge shoutout to the owner of Bodies of Atlanta, Ms. Sade Johnson.
