Meet Muhsin Khayree Reeves | Rictascale Records LLC Founder.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Muhsin Khayree Reeves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Muhsin Khayree, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been self sufficient and the kid that wanted to know how does “this” work and what is that for etc. After college and spending time in the music industry I decided to start my own label/company in 2008. And my thought process was,why relinquish my rights to my IP when I can retain 100% ownership and fully profit off of my IP. I mean sure the workload is going to be a lot harder but the reward is greater in the end

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well the one thing that sets Rictascale Records apart is that we’re a boutique label that also operates as a lifestyle brand. We range from music, art, fashion, film, home decor and health and wellness and sports. And I’m most excited about the music release we have coming up for my debut album from The Tremmors titled “The Return”.
And I have reached where I am today by just doing the work and never giving up,even when things seemed dead in the water I kept going and made sure to always network and engage people, you never know who you’re really talking to until you crack the ice. And if one angle doesn’t work be multifaceted and learn how to monetize your skill set Also you must learn that the small wins are just as important as the big wins.
And the lessons I’ve learned along my journey are that doors are going to close or never opened but that doesn’t mean quit. You have to find your village and embrace who embraces you, we’re in the era of “social media” and “likes”. One thing we should all remember as entrepreneurs that “fluff” only looks good for optics and having a 100 loyal tangible fans/customers that will buy and support whatever your brand releases is true staying power.
When people think of Rictascale Records I want them to see that we’re more then funk music composers and that we represent a space for like minded cultured individuals that march to the beat of their own drum in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if any of my colleagues ever visited Philadelphia we have an awesome restaurant, art & DJ scene. Some of the staples that you have to hit are The Reading Terminal Market(Center City) where you kind find some of the best food and pastries in the City!!! With a strong Amish presence from Lancaster County you have staples like Hatville Deli home of the infamous “Corned Beef Special”. We also have tons of mom & pop family style restaurants ranging from Italian,Asian, African and Middle Eastern fare.
We have amazing art & science museums here, where you can have your photo opp moments on the Art Museum steps that were featured in the classic Sylvester Stallone film “Rocky”
And for night life we have a plethora of clubs, bars and lounges that spin all genre’s of music from hip hop, funk, reggae/afro beats/ampiano like Silk City,Broad Hall, Warehouse On Watts etc

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As far as shout outs go,I would like to thank my older cousin Melvin”Chaos”Lewis for bringing me into the studio and helping me shape my talents. It was with Mel at the legendary Larry Gold Studios in Philadelphia where I first learned how to sequence an MPC and use Logic.
And last but not least I would like to thank the legendary Matthew “Dr.Fink” Fink of Prince & The Revolution fame for being a mentor and colleague to me for over 15yrs.
To be recognized for my talent by one of Prince’s earliest band members and collaborators is more then an honor to me
