Meet Morgan Kamau | Running Specialized Physical Therapist & Strength Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Kamau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Tempo Physical Therapy & Performance was always just a matter of time. I graduated PT school knowing that my ultimate goal was to run my own practice but it didn’t make sense to jump right in. As my confidence as a clinician grew, I felt as though the timing was right in 2023 to make the transition to starting to grow the dream of Tempo PT.
I started running cross country and track competitively in 9th grade and had the opportunity to compete collegiately at University of Georgia. Right after college, I began coaching high school cross country and track so running became a major part of my day to day life. The idea that I could blend my love of the sport with my educational background started to click in my brain when imagining what kind of PT clinic I wanted to create. Runners typically avoid going to see doctors because they’re scared of the words “just stop running”. So I knew that I wanted to create a space where runners could get help with their injuries and also get guidance on how they can continue training towards their goals. I also wanted to offer services like strength training and running gait analysis for runners looking to improve their running performance.
Tempo PT helps Atlanta runners run stronger, run faster and stay injury free. I am extremely proud of how the business has grown over the last few years from an idea to a reality.

What should our readers know about your business?
Tempo PT & Performance is a sports medicine clinic built by runners, for runners. That’s something that sets us apart from other physical therapy clinics: we understand runners through and through. We offer everything from physical therapy and injury rehab to more performance based services like strength training and running gait analysis. We are truly creating a space for runners in Atlanta to come and get the care they need while still being encouraged to train towards their goals.
I started Tempo PT & Performance in spring of 2023 and there have been ebbs and flows in terms of how much I was able to commit to the business. Thankfully, the business itself has steadily grown over time and it’s been an overall really enjoyable process. I find myself now focused on creating a business that fits my life as opposed to the constant grind that I was on when I first started. I know what I want Tempo PT to turn into and I’m learning the importance of delegating tasks to help get me there.
One thing I’m really proud of is how much we’ve integrated ourselves into the running community in Atlanta. People will recognize us from races and run club events and now we are starting to reach more runners through our online webinars. There we can present on different topics runners are wanting to learn more about but don’t know what information to trust. Positioning Tempo PT as a reliable resource for runners is important to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A lot of my friends are runners themselves so I’d probably take them to the BeltLine and get a run in with them. From there, we’d probably try to get breakfast at Thumbs Up Diner. I personally love college football so I would want to take them to the College Football Hall of Fame and maybe pop into the aquarium while we’re over there. Another thing I would do is see what shows are playing at the Fox Theatre. I am a volunteer usher for the Fox and love anytime I get to share an experience there with friends or family.
I have gotten more interested in live comedy shows/stand up so I would probably suggest someone take advantage of that scene in Atlanta too.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A major inspiration in starting my business was my mom. She preached to us growing up about the importance of loving what you do for work because she did not have that experience at all. She wanted to see us happy in our careers and that was a main driver behind the idea in the first place. She passed away in 2024 so she got to see the start of the business and those early stages which I am extremely grateful for. I just know she would be so proud of what Tempo PT has become up to this point and would be cheering me on in the journey.
I also have to acknowledge the support from my husband as he wholeheartedly believes in the dream, sometimes even more than I do. And now that we have a kid, he’s taken on even more on days where I have an event or need to get work done on a weekend. I am grateful to have him in my corner.
