We had the good fortune of connecting with Montez Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Montez, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started born to win because it was a positive mantra I used to tell myself when I was released from prison to stay focused. I designe it for my music label and learned about branding now people love the message and the design. It’s to motive and inspire us daily to achiever our goals because we Are born to win.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It was not easy starting born to win but I believe in it so I stayed with it. I had many ideas but that one stayed because I wanted to push a positive message to the world . It’s to uplift us at moments we feel we have no strength but telling yourself you are born to win can help you push through. I have been home 5 years from prison with the born to win mentality and started my community based business Ace project to help youth and ex felons get money without doing anything illegal. I’ve been doing that for 5 years because I remind myself and god has shown me numerous times I was born to win and you are to as long as you believe it.:

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to my store inside circle center mall downtown and show them all the gear I got and the black department store I’m inside. Then we would go to cul de sac kitchen for some vegan food then a showcase after where there would be performers , entertainment, comedy or the pacers game.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to Dee Ross founder of the Ross foundation. Since I started my journey he been there guiding me from a street perspective to a business perspective. I’ve learned how to stay calm during the storm because it’s always blessings behind hard work and nobody can stop what’s for you.
