We had the good fortune of connecting with Mon Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mon Day, how do you think about risk?
I believe the risks you take in life builds one’s confidence to be more dedicated towards their holy grail. It takes courage to step out of line and take the risks majority will not take. The outcome of a risk one is avoiding, could be the risk they may have needed to make. For me, taking risk has given me larger opportunities at achieving my goals. Almost acting like a cheat code, allowing me to open doors I was blind to in the beginning.

I began taking risks at a very young age. Ever since I can remember to be honest. I personally never felt it was for me to continue following the simple guidelines to achievement. So it has always been a gamble finding my own way towards success. When I turned nineteen, I made the decision of wanting to actually publish music. It was not until I turned twenty-one when I decided to take THAT risk towards my music career and call myself an Artist/Musician. At this point, I learned from my friends, family, and truly myself that I had what it takes to succeed. So I proceeded to push forward with my decision and show my potential.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Usually when an artist has a music career, they’re placed in one category of music in which they represent. So you have R&B singers, Rappers, Rockstars, Popstars, etc. Well for me, I like to try new genres of music and switch my talents to touch different crowds. My versatility is what mainly sets me apart from your average artist/musician today.

One of the things that helped me get to where I am today is listening podcasts and interviews of other successful artist. Not only artist but successful people in different career fields. This help me realize I need to see myself as who I want to become. Once I taught myself how to do that, I noticed that the society around me begin to see me the same way as well. No, it was not easy getting to this point in my life. I had to first realize who I am, before I could see myself as who I want to become. It takes a lot to realize who you are as a person. Some of us figure it out early in life and some of us are still figuring it out till this day.

The largest lesson I learned is that everybody’s trying to eat and in order to succeed. It’s hard enough working on figuring yourself out. It will not benefit you giving most of your help to others during that process. You definitely have to feed yourself first before you feed everyone around you. Not saying it’s wrong to help a friend, help your homeboy, or a family member. Just make sure after feeding them, you still have enough food on your plate to fill you up until tomorrow.

I want my listeners to really understand the messages I am sending. When listening to my music catalog. I really would like to connect to each listener emotionally. It’d be great to get the world to understand the true meaning of we’re all the same but different. We are all the same as in a mankind, and being a human. However, we’re all different internally on how we handle our obstacles and express ourselves. This is why I make the attempt of being as versatile as possible to touch different crowds of people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my friend was coming down to Atlanta to visit for a week. I would definitely have to show them why Atlanta has the best wings in the country. No other city will give you honey, hot lemon pepper sprinkled wings.

For fun, Atlanta is one of the best clubbing cities in the country as well. There’s tons of amazing entertainers down here so you have to go to the club for sure. If they are not the club type. We got a lot of beautiful sceneries in the city as well. Can never go wrong with a hike and a little exercise.

I like to shop and Atlanta supplies a lot of different shopping centers. So I would definitely take them to places like Lenox mall or Phipps plaza if they more so into designer clothes. Personally, I’ll like streetwear so I get a lot of my clothes online or I go to local stores downtown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and some of my friends definitely deserve credit for where I am today. I like to surround myself with go getters in order to keep myself influenced and inspired. Two specific guys I know who definitely deserve a shoutout is Juwan Wesley and Kimani Guchu. They are working extremely hard in the music industry and on their clothing brand “Rude Atlanta”. They are going places and to have them on my team feels like well grounded support. If it weren’t for the small few I have being there for me mentally, emotionally, and sometimes financially. I cannot say I would have surpassed some of my obstacles as swiftly as did in my story.
