We had the good fortune of connecting with Mo Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well the first one that I actually started was my lipstick line, Myka J Lipstiks. The thought process behind that one was to create something that my daughters would one day own and help make even more successful. The second one that I created was the radio show/ multimedia group, DaPostUp Ent, LLC. This was created as a followup for my tv/podcast, DaPostUp hosted by Ms Mo Clark on Status Network. This was created because although I have my own show, I also offer media coverage of events and PR services for clients who are wanting to expand their brands as well,

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With my makeup line Myka J Lipstiks, I really don’t have a targeted age range. I would like to think that I offer a product for everyone. Whether it is a popping shade of green or an everyday classy red matte finished lipstick, there is something for everyone. I like to use bright colors and bling for my packaging because I feel like it is a reflection of who I am. I like nice things on a budget. When it comes to Myka J, I feel as though you should be able to wear expensive looking products without breaking the bank. When i first started out getting in to makeup, I was the girl watching the YouTube videos thinking I had to go out and buy all the big name products. Those big named brands didn’t really do the tricks though. There were some smaller brands that offered great quality. Being a single mom for so long, you learn to value quality, but you also know that not all quality products have to have a huge price tag. The same thing goes for my marketing and media brand, DaPostUp Ent, LLC. My time IS my service and that’s the most valuable part of my services.

I can honestly say what sets me and my brands apart from others is the fact that I pride myself on fast turnaround times. At some point in time, once you really become booked and busy, you have to learn when to delegate help. There are companies that I have ordered from that never respond to inquiries, answer calls, or even ship your order. It can be very discouraging as a consumer. I have an extensive background in the customer service industry from years of working in call centers and even at those jobs I really wanted to provide customers with a resolution.

Today with both the cosmetic line and the media brand, I am where I need to be at the time I need to be here. It hasn’t been easy. I look at some many bigger names and i know that my products are just as good, but they pay a lot for marketing and they have a bigger team. The thing that keeps me motivated is the fact of knowing that everyone started from somewhere. You just have to keep going, keep researching, do not be scared of change, and stop comparing yourself or your brands to others.

What I want others to know about my brands are simply to expect quality products and services. If you receive products from my cosmetic line, you will be back. They’re affordable and cute and will easily become your go to brand. For my media brand, I deliver fun interviews and services and I love providing all a platform to share their story no matter how big the following is. You never know how someone’s story can motivate someone else.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Shopping of course! No. If my best friend were visiting Atlanta, she’s not really a club person, so that would be interesting considering that I used to promote clubs, I would take her somewhere we could enjoy a nice massage. Maybe spend a day or two at the W Hotel downtown Atlanta. Go to the SkyLounge at night so she could see the city of Atlanta at night.

Fun eateries that I like would be Cheeseburger Bobby’s in Roswell, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Tin Lizzy’s for tacos. I honestly can’t remember if she is afraid of heights, but if she’s not we would do the SkyWheel downtown, Stone Mountain, and for sure Andretti’s. There’s a new spot in Cumberland Mall, Round 1, I haven’t been there just yet, but I am eager to check it out.

Of course we would do Six Flags, White Waters, and a few spots to grab junk food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my daughters for never giving up on me. They are literally my glam squad, my cheerleaders, and my support system. I started this thing out to motivate and inspire them, but they’re the ones that motivate and inspire me.
