We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Elder-scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, what do you want your legacy to be?
As a makeup content creator, I want my legacy to highlight the importance of recognizing the God-given beauty within each of us. I hope to inspire not only the adults I connect with but also encourage kids to embrace who they are, to love their own skin, and not aspire to be like me, but to be confidently themselves. My legacy will emphasize using makeup as a tool for enhancement, not a mask, allowing creativity to shine through makeup or other forms of self-expression. I want to be remembered for how I made people feel—bringing happiness and joy. I want people to know I genuinely care about getting to know them, not just on the surface but who they truly are. When people hear my name, I want them to say, “She was authentically Mia, through and through.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The number one lesson I learned as I entered this content creation journey is “Everything you already have, is all you need!” When I first considered starting, I created this laundry list of things I thought I needed just to begin—like an expensive camera, perfect lighting, and a flawless background. But what I came to realize is that people are drawn to who you are, not what equipment you use. In the beginning, I was so nervous to post, thinking my content had to look like everyone else’s. But the moment I let go of that idea, I was able to be myself and have fun! That’s when the magic truly started—when I embraced just being Mia and enjoyed the process.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my goodness, where do I even begin?!Starting at one of my favorite spots in the city, bartaco, you really can’t go wrong with their tacos, guac, and churros—they’re a must! Next, we’ll take a nice stroll along the Beltline to enjoy some fresh air and check out the local art.
Day two kicks off with breakfast at Atlanta Breakfast Club, where the Southern comfort food will definitely hit the spot. For lunch, we’ll head to Kuroshio for some incredible fried rice that never disappoints. And then it’s off to Jeni’s Ice Cream for a scoop (or two) of their amazing flavors to satisfy that sweet tooth!
On day three, we’ll spend some time at Krog Street Market. It’s perfect for picking up snacks from different vendors and browsing local shops. For dinner, we’ll enjoy a cozy meal at Roc South, where the comfort food is on point.
Day four is all about fun! We will start off at Chattahooche Food Works for a variety of food options. Then we’’ll hit up The Painted Pin for some bowling. For dinner we will hit up Kimball House and the rolls….are a MUST. Afterward, we can challenge each other to a game of pool at Twain’s for some more laid-back fun!
On day five, we’ll start with a fresh brunch at Cultivate. After that, we’ll swing by Lottafrutta for some refreshing fruit bowls. And, because we love tacos, we’ll make another stop at bartaco.
For day six, we’ll have lunch at Antico before heading to a Braves game. The energy in the ballpark is always a blast, Later, we can chill by the pool with the best wings around from Fork in the Road—they’re a must-have.
Finally, we’ll wrap up our week at Toast on Lenox for a farewell brunch. We can dig into some delicious breakfast options while reminiscing about our awesome week together. It’s the perfect way to end our adventure and celebrate all the memories we made!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I must give all the thanks and glory to God. There are prayers only He has heard, and I wouldn’t be who or where I am without Him. Next, my family, of course. My husband has been my constant source of encouragement, always supporting my ideas, cheering for me loudly, pushing me to be better, and reminding me I can do anything. My family has also played a huge role in my success. From the moment I considered makeup content, they’ve said, “GO FOR IT!” My mom and dad were always among the first to like and comment on every video, and that meant the world to me. Makeup wouldn’t have been a passion of mine without my sister. Even though we’re 10 years apart, I always looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. Her makeup was always flawless! One weekend, while she was home from college, she taught me how to do my brows, and the rest is history. Every time she came home, she’d show me something new, and I fell in love with makeup. Last but not least, my friends! They’ve been ride or die from the start, trusting me to do their makeup for events long before I went online. That built my confidence and gave me the chance to experiment with different techniques. They’re always cheering me on, saying, “YASSSS MIA! I’m so proud of you!” and they may not know it, but that means absolutely everything to me.
