We had the good fortune of connecting with Merry Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Merry, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After working on the Expo for Today’s Black Woman through V103, the opportunity to oversee/own this project was extended, which I immediately accepted. This led to me creating an event planning firm (MGPG Events) with the Black Women’s Expo becoming our signature event.
Creating unforgettable experiences is what I do. It only made sense to step out on my own and bring the visions of clients to life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MGPG Events has been producing Black Women’s Expo for the past 28 years! In addition, our phenomenal team has produced an abundance of events of all sizes and genres including educational, non-profit, govermental, entertainment and more! We remain proud of all of our accomplishments and continue to develop innovative ways to elevate the presence of our signature event.
Getting to where we are today was certainly not easy, but well worth it. We continue to overcome challenges by learning from any missteps, embracing new trends/technology and staying committed to a standard of excellence!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We must begin at the office of MGPG Events, 159 N. Sangamon so that we can give our guest a glimpse of the action! Other stops would include venues where we have hosted events from hotels to restaurants to convention centers (McCormick Place). We would close out with one of my spots where I recently held my birthday party, Norm’s Bistro!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Less than two years ago, I lost my sister Ruby to an unexpected, aggressive cancer. She was also my biggest supporter when it came to the Black Women’s Expo and life in general! This shoutout goes to my sister Ruby! Rest in heaven!
