We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I had to take a chance on myself; for the longest, I did not believe I could do it, which affected my life tremendously. Working job to job and desk to a desk, I found myself not expressing myself anymore. I have been doing art for my entire life, and I have always connected to it but never pursued it as a career until I decided to risk a BIG risk and nothing makes me happier than being able to spread the love and knowledge I have through my art. I am very expressive, and I already had an outlet that not only makes me feel connected but connects me to the world ALL of the WORLD, the good, bad, and ugly. I want to continue speaking for those who can not find the words, especially those who don’t feel like I have the voice. Even though it is a roller coaster, I wouldn’t change this ride for another.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My art is my expression as a woman and a black woman, which is always my focal point, That sets me a part because we all have induvial life experiences we can share and share mine through my art. I show the beauty and the struggle in my art as I work between different mediums to show my diversity and skill. It has not been an easy road whatsoever. I have had plenty of business, all with their ups and downs. Some people even know me as MNT-Productions. But through all of that, I have made those critical relationships with people that followed me six years later on a different journey, and they have been KEY elements to success. My Brand is ME one hundred percent. I represent peace, knowledge, integrity, and gratitude. When you buy art from me Or commission me to do something for your home, or even set a photoshoot up with me, you are going to get an experience like no other. I put my heart and soul into everything I do.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One important about Atl is food, and fortunately, I am vegan, and I love nature. From a picnic at Grant Park to roller skating on the beltline, anything outside and active, that’s where I’ll be. Soul Vegetarian/ Slutty Vegan/ my cooking!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would Love to Shout Out My Mom and My Dad, Maryum & Quincy Thomas, my brother Quincy Jr. Not only for their support but also for their encouragement and dedication to making sure I am a success. To my partner Reginald Wright Jr, who is active in my everyday activity and every event, making sure I am whole. My son Zion motivates me every day to be a better person, and my mini babies Naomi & Robyn Wright. Finally, My Friends Asha, Jessica, Taylor, Breana, Shekinah, Tamarick, Korey, and Nader, with consent, love, and support! Motivating me every day and showing up for me every single time.
