We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Milan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, how do you think about risk?
I love risk! I think if I did not step out on faith and trust myself I would t be where I am today. I recently just relocated to Atlanta for my music career and it’s been easier making music connections and also traveling to and from my shows being as though the artist I work for Keith Sweat is based in Atlanta as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Maya Milan a recording artist from the DMV AREA., Pg county to be exact! What sets me apart from other artist is the power house vocals I deliver, accompanied with a tall glass of vulnerability. My music is relatable and chronicles my life as a young woman simply trying to figure things out. My tone is versatile and can sound amazing on anything so I pride myself in being the founder of pop soul. I have a pop tone but when I sing you still hear the pain. I got my start my singing in anyplace that had a mic and really putting myself out there. Then one day Teddy Riley discovered a song called “Girl code” off of my latest Ep “11:11” and things took off from there. He took me under his wing and got me a job working for Keith Sweat as a background singer and now I’ve been on tour nationally and internationally for the last 4 years. I’m truly grateful for the experience because it has made a better, more credible artist. Im an r&b diva so it’s only right that I’m mentored by r&b legends. Through all this it def wasn’t easy because sometimes touring can get lonely and I had my days where I felt like I wasn’t even deserving of the blessings, but I had to take a step and realize it was written for me to do music and this is my destiny. Each blessing is nearly a stepping stone towards my future success. I say that to say that you have to own who you are. Never let someone tell you who they THINK you are, you have to know for yourself !! The biggest lesson I’ve learned from pursuing a career in music and even background singing is to always stay ready. Sometimes I never know what’s next as far as a performance or record that needs to be cut so I have to stay on point because you never get second chances, only first impressions! What I want the world to know is that when I blow up and go number 1 on billboard , it wasn’t over night. I have worked hard my whole life 15+ years perfecting my sound and craft and I would die for my music. I believe in it and I want the people to believe as well. There are no gimmicks with me. What you see is what you get so jut overall know I have put the work in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well Atlanta has been treating me so well! I def have a few favorite spots. A day with Milan would kinda go like this:

Morning work out 10am and then we would go to my favorite brunch spot called Old vinings inn. They have the best fried green tomato I have ever had in my life.

Then afternoon we would hit Lenox. I live for a good window shop/ mall date that usually has be $500 poorer once I leave the mall cus I can never not get anything . I just trick myself by saying window shop so I don’t feel as bad lol.

After the mall we are def hitting happy hour at slush Atl! They have hookah and the best lamb chops I’ve ever had in my life. Plus one of my good friends works there and she is the best with the drinks ! So it’s def a cute vibe.

After all the hookah it’s def giving unwind so then we would prob leave slush and head to my pool for some relaxation and more drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my mom Simone Greggs for her unconditional support. People need to realize it takes a village to raise an Artist so when the support starts at home it helps with your confidence in the real world. I grew up knowing I was a star thanks to my mom and that winners mentality has stuck with me through the years knowing that my dream is bigger than me but this can also be a way out for my family.
