We had the good fortune of connecting with Marques Woolford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marques, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in my career whether it be Personal Training or Acting, the thing I hold of most importance is doing great work, being professional, and treating everyone with the utmost respect. In both fields you truly want for people to request you over and over again. You can’t do that without creating an amazing work space and experience working with you.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an actor and writer it’s important that I find the truth behind the story. It’s extremely difficult to keep your viewers attention and they can tell when something is a lie. Even in fiction. You have to find the truth behind behavior and in different things that happen so viewers can see themselves in the story. What sets me apart from others is I’m always going to give you the most grounded aspect of a character. I’m always gonna try to display the why so even if I’m doing something bad, you see the reasoning. I also take into account of what it means as a black man that walks, talks, and looks like me to tell certain stories. So I dive into stories where I have to show emotion. It speaks volume in a society where men are discouraged from showing emotion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take them to see the non-profit for which i coach acting to young adults called “Inspire The Fire”. Charlotte has some amazingly talented young adults I feel the world should know about. We’d also have to eat at some our great restaurants such a Restoration Hardware. The night life would have us visiting the Music Factory and listening to some live bands. We’d have to do some shopping at one of the malls or outlets. It’s summer time and the city is FINALLY OPEN!!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off I have an amazing family. My parents have always been present and was told often I was my mothers favorite person. And my father didn’t hesitate to tell me he loved me. They were at EVERYTHING I DID. My sisters are 2 of my best friends. We have our own way of communicating. We call ourselves the Tribe. My family is where I get my fearlessness from.
