We had the good fortune of connecting with M.v. Oliphant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi M.V., what role has risk played in your life or career?
No one achieves goals without taking risks. Faith in your abilities and in the spiritual source in your abilities are prerequisites of taking risks. Sacrifices comes into play as well. I had to make a choice of staying in my comfort zone continuing living life as usual working jobs I’m not happy doing letting life pass me by, keeping things safe within my comfort zone, or take a leap of faith with my God-given gifts and risk it all, knowing there would be challenges ahead. Taking risks is truly a walk of faith.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a triple-threat artist…….. an actor, vocalist & voiceover artist. I’m most proud that, although I really didn’t get started in pursuing my film career until the age of 40 (and started doing stage play performances at the age of 30), my work portfolio consists of having performed in three national television shows as a principal, 12 stage plays, six national commercials (two of these to begin airing this coming Fall), five independent films (three currently airing on Tubi and one on Amazon Prime), two national music videos,
I got to where I am by God opening doors to work with amazing established actors, casting directors, film directors. A privilege not afforded to many.
If this game called arts & entertainment were easy, everybody and anybody would be on this field or court playing. Nothing of great value comes easy. I’ve endured times of hardship going through this journey where I could’ve simply thrown in the towel with my tail tucked between my legs and returned back to life as usual. But knowing God hasn’t brought me this far to turn back, I’d be dishonoring Him by quitting in the midst of challenges. Quitting is never an option. God never allows us to go through any challenges that He knows we couldn’t handle..
I want the world to know if this country boy from a rural town of Wrens GA (30 miles southwest of Augusta) can begin pursuing his dreams at an older than conventional age by reinventing himself, then anyone who believes in their own God given talents and not listen to naysayer and haters can do the same with their own quests in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to the Martin Luther King Jr Center for Nonviolent Social Change Center, the Atlanta University Center, the Georgia Aquarium, the National Center for Civil & Human Rights, the World of Coca Cola Museum, The Beautiful Soul food restaurant, JR Crickets bar & grill, the Sundial, the Beverly & the Lock & Key bars & grills.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my Queen Mother Pearl C. Oliphant who always supported my quests and efforts with her love & prayers (even if she didn’t understand what they involved) & for introducing me to my thespian mentor the late Maxine Barnett-Nesbitt (who’s acting credits include “In the Heat of the Night,” “Murder in Mississippi” & “Skeleton Key”), my home room teacher from T.W. Josey High School in Augusta Mrs. Andrea Estroff who as the school’s drama teacher put me in one of her classes due to a class scheduling conflict which exposed me to the art form when I was a 16 year old trying to figure out what to do with my life.
Also shout out to my talent agent for 11 years Barbara Garvey of East Coast Talent Agency, and my acting coaches past & present Chip Fields-Hurd, Kim Fields, Terri J. Vaughn, Clifton Powell, GregAlan Williams, Troy Rowland, Michael H. Cole, Thom Scott II & the late Tommy Ford.
