We had the good fortune of connecting with Lulu Mocombe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lulu, how do you think about risk?
Society has created such a negative fear around the word RISK TAKING that it seems to paralyze people when they hear or think about it. So when I did a self evaluation in regards to the risk I’ve taken in my life, 2 things shown to be consistent no matter the outcome was fear and doubt. In accepting that, that I realized I had to change my process by minimizing the fear and doubt in my risk taking by making them intentional and calculated and it has truly been a game changer for me. I set an outcome and write of the plan, I research the how to, pros and cons of every step to make the most informed decision that I can make in that time whether personal or business, but most importantly I pray and meditate through the ENTIRE process. As I continue to strengthen in that process I no longer fear taking risk because I enjoy the blessings and or lessons that they bring.

What should our readers know about your business?
LuBella Fitness was created from a place of insecurities (in my abilities, physical appearance, self esteem, etc) to be completely transparent, but as the community got larger I realized that my insecurities would be the catalyst to my success and purpose. Just to give a quick back story, for the most part of my life I’ve had what many considered to be an effortless hourglass figure but in 2017 due to health issues I went from 163lbs to 196lbs. So now here I am overnight having to adjust to this new size and before i knew it depression hit hard. I stopped socializing, sweats became my best friend and worst of all I KNEW NOTHING about weight loss as that was an issue I never had to deal with before. So when waist trainers came a trend, I purchased like 5 of them over $100 each and all of them had me looking like sponge bob. So I went home pulled out the out sewing machine (its the Haitian in me) and reconstructed it and started seeing results. After awhile coworkers began paying me $30 to reconstruct their old waist trainers and finally it clicked build my own from scratch and that’s when LuBella Fitness was born. But it comes with its rewards and its challenges, to remain productive through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship I had to create processes for every season. I’m realizing that the most challenging part about business is not the actually business but staying encouraged when you are in seeding or waiting season and I’m learning that remembering my WHY and maintaining a positive mindset is key to get through the rough patches. But most of all, ASK FOR HELP in areas that you recognize that you are simply not strong in as of yet. LuBella; as a brand; is an experience. My ultimate goal, is for women to be comfortable and confident in their skin and not feel ashamed for wanting to do so! My motto ‘WHEN YOU LOOK BETTER, you do and feel better!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, this question has made me realize that I’m a homebody lol. I’m an adventurous nature and foodie person so for the most part we are trying something crazy when friends and family come into town. Definitely have to get a workout in whether at the gym, Stone Mountain or a trail. After that definitely brunch somewhere in midtown or at Breakfast at Barneys LOVE THEM. Other than that we either bowling at Painted Pins, playing golf at Top Golf, karaoke at Mics Karaoke, Speed car racing or a picnic at the park after visiting the Botanical Garden in Atlanta. I’m not a clubber but a nice Hookah or Cigar lounge ain’t never hurt nobody.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Fredric St. Jean for his encouragement and support from the beginning of this journey. Corey Reese for his mentorship and support.
