We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Buice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
While conventional advice that one should “ask good questions” is well intended, I believe it’s flawed. The idea that questions be qualified as good or bad is counter to the fundamental nature of inquiry. Focusing on asking “good” questions can stifle curiosity, discourage growth and learning, and create fear of judgment. The irony is that I’ve been credited for asking good questions my entire career but it’s not because I’m trying to identify the “good” questions; it’s because I focus on two key things:

1) Ask questions with curiosity. My experience in business has taught me that people usually have access to the information they need to solve their problems. Asking questions with curiosity is a tool that not only helps people express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns; it goes a long way to building personal connection, conveying interest in others, growing your knowledge of any subject, and building trust. I use this method to build well-defined plans that accurately reflect client issues.

2) Don’t be afraid to ask the obvious question when tackling problems. When working with business partners and clients, I noticed that what seems clear often isn’t. Asking seemingly simple questions uncovers misunderstanding, misalignment, and challenges assumptions that might otherwise go unnoticed. This simple strategy helps ensure everyone is on the same page and leads to better outcomes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Culture Curated is a boutique, woman-owned HR consulting firm co-founded by me and two other women. Years ago, the three of us worked on the same HR team. Each of us brought very different skills to the table and rather than focusing on being perfect, we leaned into each other’s superpowers to solve problems and created high levels of accountability for one another.

Over time, we became known for being the HR team that got sh*t done! We did so in a way that valued collaboration, building off others’ ideas, and utilizing our networks. We focused on giving people assignments that let them flex their superpowers rather than focusing on “fixing” people who were less than perfect. That experience created an environment where people wanted to do their best work, had high trust in each other, and were super productive.

We knew we had something special – a secret sauce of sorts. We turned that experience into a framework and launched Culture Curated, helping leaders and organizations be intentional in creating their organizational, division, department, or team culture to best equip them to solve their business problems.

Our Approach Stands Out:
1) Deep Business Insight: Unlike many HR consulting firms that apply a generic template to every client, we begin by gaining a deep understanding of your unique business context. We take the time to understand the nuances of your industry, the specific challenges you face, and the unique culture you’re cultivating. This deep insight allows us to create strategies that are truly aligned with your business needs.

2) Tailored Solutions: We don’t believe in off-the-shelf solutions. Our strategies are thoughtfully tailored to fit the culture you’re building within your organization. Whether it’s enhancing employee engagement, refining leadership development, or managing change, our solutions are crafted to resonate with your team and support your long-term goals.

3) Simplifying Complexity: People management can be incredibly complex, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We specialize in breaking down these complexities into clear, actionable strategies that are easy to implement and sustain. Our goal is to empower your HR team (or whomever has HR responsibility) to drive meaningful change without the frustration of navigating complicated processes.

At our core, Culture Curated provides comprehensive Human Resources Management Services, taking care of all your HR needs—from employee relations and policy creation to recruiting and compensation strategies—so you can focus on growing your business.

Beyond HR, we specialize in Culture Transformation services, helping you create a workplace that attracts top talent and fosters innovation. Whether it’s conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion training, leadership development, or designing new performance management processes, we offer tailored solutions to drive lasting success.

We are also passionate about empowering women through our Women Helping Women Thrive initiative, offering support with work/life balance strategies, training to confront microaggressions, and tools to navigate the double bind.

Lastly, our Coaching Services are designed to elevate leaders at every level, providing professional development for HR teams, working moms, high-potential employees, and executives alike.

In short, we’re here to support your people, strengthen your culture, and empower your leaders—ensuring your organization thrives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lunch or dinner at Good Kitchen + Market – high quality healthy food that still feels indulgent!
Red Hare Brewing & Distilling Still on the Square – excellent and simple Cuban cuisine and the drinks go down easy!
I love a good thrift store and recommend Ecologie Resale & Vintage for unique pieces (they have an inhouse seamstress too!)
Spend the morning hiking one of the many trails at Kennesaw Mountain. Great for trail running too!

My unending thanks goes to my Husband – an incredible partner in juggling career and family.
