We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexus Garner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexus, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks has been a significant part of my journey, especially as SadGirl Lex. The idea isn’t just about success but about overcoming the pain and challenges that life has thrown my way. Losing my husband and navigating life as a widow has forced me to take risks—emotionally, creatively, and professionally. I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone, push through the sadness, and channel it into my music. Every time I take a risk, it’s like I’m rising above the grief, turning it into something powerful and meaningful.

The risks I’ve taken—like signing a record deal, putting my emotions out there in my songs, and even stepping into the spotlight—have all played a crucial role in shaping who I am. It’s about embracing the uncertainty, knowing that every step forward, no matter how scary, is a step towards something greater.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is deeply personal and rooted in my experiences. What sets me apart is my ability to channel deep emotions—particularly sadness—into something that resonates with others. My music isn’t just about being successful; it’s about being real, being vulnerable, and showing that you can rise even when life knocks you down.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come since losing my husband. That loss could have broken me, but instead, it fueled my creativity and determination. Signing with 623 ENT and working with amazing people like Wendy Day are milestones that show how far I’ve come. But the journey wasn’t easy. I had to push through a lot of pain and uncertainty, learning to trust myself and my vision.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that it’s okay to be sad and still pursue success. You don’t have to hide your pain; instead, you can use it to fuel your dreams. That’s what I want the world to know.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d make sure they experience some of the best places in the city. We’d start with a slice at Spinelli’s Pizzeria—nothing beats their pizza. After that, we’d head over to Mellwood Arts Center to check out some amazing local art. To get outdoors, we’d visit River Falls Scenic Park, where the natural beauty is so refreshing. Of course, we’d have to hit up some thrift shops—I love finding hidden gems. And for a fun night out, we’d go to 4th Street Live, where there’s always something exciting happening. It’d be a perfect blend of food, art, nature, shopping, and entertainment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to 623 ENT, my label, for believing in me and helping me bring my music to life. Big thanks to Wendy Day for her guidance and support—your influence has been invaluable. And to Histakes Productions, thank you for always delivering top-notch production that truly brings my vision to life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you.
