We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Poer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexi, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Parents are children’s first and best teachers, on topics big and small. The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is exposing my kids to travel. We love traveling with our children and showcasing different communities, ways of living, and people of different backgrounds. Encountering new people and places is a great way to normalize conversations about differences between individuals. It is so important to let kids know that it’s okay to notice skin color, to talk about race, and have questions. As parents, our desire is to make differences normal and most importantly, good!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Strolling in the Suburbs in 2016 after I left my full-time job at Porsche Cars North America to stay home with my newborn daughter. Strolling in the Suburbs was a creative outlet for me that quickly became so much more.
Very early on I was able to implement the business skills I had acquired during my corporate career into this entrepreneurial setting. It has definitely been an interesting journey as my role as a content creator is a relatively new industry. There definitely can be a lack of transparency and accountability within the industry, so each creator has to the research wear many hats in order to succeed independently.
Overall, I love being able to inspire others to live a beautiful life at home, and travel the world with their kids. Sharing those experiences through imagery and video to show the value travel can add to your life is what drives us.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Atlanta! It’s diversity and differing neighborhoods truly provides something for everyone. Now that I am a Roswell resident I’d definitely recommend a hike to the burbs to checkout what it has to offer.
These days I’m all about the food & drink scene when we have some time to get out and explore. Some of my favorite food spots in Roswell/ East Cobb include Gracious Plenty for Breakfast, Osteria Mattone for my pasta fix, Monkey 68 for Sushi, Lola’s Burger & Tequila Bar, and Jada’s Caribbean Cuisine for my beloved Jamaican food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to especially thank my husband who has constantly supported me on this journey, and allowed me to open our home and life to others. My mother for her love and affection for our kids; without her we never would have found the time to get to where we are today. Lastly, all my fellow creators who have been transparenton their journeys within this industry and willingly shared their experiences with me over the years.
