We had the good fortune of connecting with Lazaria Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lazaria, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I feel like with the modeling industry most people don’t think it takes anything but being attractive and standing in front of a camera. There is so much more that goes on behind the scenes though. We have to come up with concepts for these photo shoots, picking wardrobe and props. We spend hours practicing facial expressions and posing. Modeling is about creating a story with one photo for the eyes of the world to see and connect with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like what sets me apart from other models is that I am not focused on being “sexy”. I don’t have any interest in taking photos in lingerie or swimsuits all of the time. I love creating sets and styling wardrobe for my photo shoots. Even dressing up as characters makes modeling so much more fun! Over time though I have come to realize that A lot of the paid gigs in my area are for swim wear/lingerie type shoots or for music videos. It has been challenging finding paid work but I know that if I stick to what I live about modeling I will find companies, agencies and photographers that feel the same way I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I actually don’t really got out much unless it involves food lol. I would take them to a cafe the Blu Rose Bistro for a delicious brunch accompanied by live music they have daily. I would also take them to have the best sushi and fried rice I’ve ever had at Kuroshio’s . Oh! And you can’t forget the amazing huge bowls of spicy Ramen we could be slurping down at The Bowl ! Needless to say there wouldn’t be a day that your belly isn’t full!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my friend Chazz Cater. She is an amazing content creator on YouTube as well as an amazing videographer/Photographer. If it wasn’t for her asking me to try modeling for her portfolio she was working on at the time I wouldn’t have realized the love I have for modeling now. She helped me so much with building my confidence in front of a camera and bringing my creativity to the forefront for photo shoots. I also want to shoutout my boyfriend Januaryhigh and the rest of my music family IMG (Instrumentalist Music Group). My boyfriend really inspired me push my self when it came to writing music and expressing my inner thoughts in ways that others could relate to.
