We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauryn Tubbs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauryn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always wanted to be my own boss. I loved the idea of creating my own schedule and not having to answer to anybody. I also was always creative and I wanted a career that would allow me to express that. I used to do makeup and I came up with the idea of having my own Shop my senior year of high school. I wanted financial freedom and i knew that an average 9-5 would not suffice.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business name is The Dime Depot. Its basically a one stop shop for all of your beauty needs. My goal is to provide anything my customers need in order to feel like the best, most beautiful version if themselves. Ive been in business for almost 5 years now. I went from doing makeup, to braiding, to making hand-made natural skincare products, to doing nails, and now even selling hair! Ive been fully focused and driven when it comes to my business since I graduated from high school. There has been many obstacles but none have ever stopped me from going after what I am ultimately trying to accomplish. No matter what happens I always stay passionate about my vision and I refuse to compromise or give up until my dreams come to fruition. One lesson I’ve learned along the way is to faith. I like to believe “its already written”. So even though i face challenges i push forward and as long as I have faith nothing can stop me. Something i want the world to know about me and my brand is that its all about making people feel beautiful and confident, whether you like a more bold and unique look, or something more simple. I want everybody to feel like a 10 out of 10.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually dont go out much but i love anywhere with a good brunch or fancy cocktails. One place i really like is southern fire kitchen in Brookhaven, their lamb chops are soo good. Or fin & feathers on edgewood. I love shopping so of course me and besty would have to go to lenox or cumberland mall.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my mother of course for always being my #1 supporter in everything I do no matter what. She supported me from dropping out of college, to going to cosmetology school, to moving to Atlanta and even till this day she is always willing to help in any way possible. I’d also like to give a very special thanks to my mentor, Sydney Walker, who was the first to teach me to do nails and never hesitated to put me on game about anything I needed to know. She has a huhe impact on my career from helping me to master my craft, to just being there when I call for business advice. She was a huge inspiration for me in the beginning of my journey as a nail technician and I greatly appreciate her for that. I would be where I am today without either of them.
