We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren (Lo) Seymour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren (Lo), how do you think about risk?
Honestly, most decisions I make come with taking a risk. I have always been one to take the road less traveled and do things my way. Staying in the mindset of “if I don’t try how will I know what’s on the other side?” has pushed me out of my comfort zone and ultimately made me a professional risk-taker! I think one of the defining risk that I have taken in my life was moving from Indiana to California to pursue my dreams. It was one of the best decisions I have made!

What should our readers know about your business?
Made Fresh By Lo was birthed in 2019, just a few months after I had my son. I was looking for natural products to assist me with my energy levels and getting the proper nutrient intake. I started making sea moss gel and posting recipes on Instagram that included the sea moss gel which led to a lot of dms about it. Pyrite Seamoss Gel was my first product. I named all of my sea moss gel blends after crystals because they actually have a lot in common. What sets my brand apart is I have always kept the family in mind! I wanted a brand that the entire family could use to promote a natural/holistic lifestyle. I am most proud of being able to reach so many people in a very short amount of time. Business-wise I am where I am today because of the support from people who want to see me win! There are many people who sell sea moss so to be supported and loved on by my community means the world to me! I have grown to have over 25+ products and launched in Urbn Water Company last spring! Most of my challenges with this business come from being a one-band man. I do everything from making my products, constantly creating new products, marketing, shipping, and the list goes on. So it hasn’t been a smooth ride but it gets done! My child definitely helps with keeping me motivated and on the move! I would say two of the biggest lessons I have learned are: It’s okay to rest and It’s okay to ask for help! If there is anything I want the world to know about myself or my brand is that everything I do I do from a pure heart. If it’s not in alignment then I cannot be a part of it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Visiting Indy you have to get Longs Bakery at least once and get some yeast donuts! For lunch depending on the mood, I would say Yat’s if you want some creole food or Cul de Sac Kitchen for some bomb vegan nachos! Also, the veggie plate from Chef Oya’s The Trap is where it’s at! For a drink and a vibe, sliding to Epic Ultra Lounge to listen to some of the greatest live music with the most beautiful dancers is always a go! Oh, and they got some fire buffalo cauliflower tacos! If you want to dance, the Casba Bar in Broad Ripple is the place to be! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my mentor and friend Terrell (Joe) Wright! Joe gave me my first creative directing/styling opportunity off of the simple fact that he liked my Instagram and style back in 2013! He encouraged me to really tap into my gift and always go full out when doing so. I appreciate him because he consistently pushes me to do more and trusts me with his creative visions! If it wasn’t for him it might have taken me a lot longer to take my craft more seriously! I am forever grateful for his passion behind me! Everybody needs a Joe!
