We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think that when you make the decision to become an entrepreneur you’re essentially taking a huge risk. You risk your business not doing well. You risk not making as much money as you did at your 9-5. The list goes on but ultimately it comes down to stepping out on faith. Trusting that if God gave you the vision for the business, He will give you the tools you need to succeed. Taking risks has definitely played a huge role in terms of my career. I have left corporate jobs that no longer served me. Leaving a place where the perks and benefits were more than excellent is very difficult to do but I knew that the dreams and goals that I had for myself were more important. My 9-5 was my safe place and cushion so to speak. I was veryyyy comfortable there, so taking that risk meant more to me than anything. It was my ticket to freedom, to figuring it out, and to making it happen.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others would have to be that I pride myself on creating relationships with each one of my clients. Yes, I may just be their photographer or social media manager but I also want to be someone they trust. What I mean by that is, I want them to feel comfortable in front of the camera when we shoot or when I curate a post for them. I want them to know and expect nothing less than a top-notch experience.

What I am most proud about thus far would have to be how excited my clients are when they receive their photos. It brings me so much joy to see that smile on their face when they see the final photos. There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing their reactions.

My journey through entrepreneurship has not been easy but has always been worth it. I’ve come across many trials and tribulations but I always found a way to push forward. There was truly no other option lol. A few lessons that I’ve learned along the way would be to just go for it. You’ll never know what something could be if you don’t try. Another lesson I’ve learned is to simply start. Many times, we are hesitant to pursue our dreams because of what we don’t have. We may not have the best equipment or just feel inadequate for the job. Truth is, you have to just start! You can get fancy later but get started now because “now” is all we have. The best piece of advice that I would give anyone looking to start their entrepreneurial journey would be that “the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit, so keep going.” You reap what you sow, sow good seeds and you’ll bear good fruit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So Downtown Detroit is really on the come up and has been for quite some time. For brunch, we would have to visit bab0 Detroit, which is a cute little gourmet diner. Whenever I go there, I get their Diego Skillet and it’s literally amazing every single time. After brunch, we would go to the DIA. It’s a museum located downtown that has a wide variety of contemporary art. It’s a huge museum so I’d say bring your walking shoes because we’ll be there for a bit. After that, we may do a little shopping because I can’t have my best friend visit me and we do not go to a mall. There are two that are pretty nice here and they are called Somerset and Great Lakes Crossing. Lastly, we would go to dinner and my favorite place lately has been the Green Lantern located in Berkeley, Michigan. They are known for their amazing pizza but I have to say that the wings may have the pizza beat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God deserves all the glory and credit for LT Multimedia Co. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Him. My family and friends have been a huge support system as well. They have been there since the initial idea of my business. They continue to push and motivate me through it all. Extremely blessed to have loved ones that care about my baby (business) just as much as I do.
