We had the good fortune of connecting with Latoya Stafford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latoya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process that led me to start my Postpartum Doula business came from my desire to help families create balance and harmony after birth.

After experiencing complications from a high risk pregnancy, an emergency C-section (cesarean), and having to care for my children while healing from major abdominal surgery, it became natural to me to offer this support for moms who experienced similar birth stories.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My most proudest accomplishment is my newest release of my journal, 30 Days to Align your Health & Healing. This project came about because of my recent degree in psychology that allowed me to study behaviors of the mind and the importance of mental wellness. I have also had the opportunity to work with children with mental health disorders.

Combining passion with purpose led me to become a postpartum doula. I understand the importance of physical and mental healing. Being a postpartum doula allow me to to support both the physical and psychological aspects of the healing process after birth. Studies show stress, anxiety, and depression can impact the healing process. As your postpartum doula, my job is to provide emotional, physical, and companionship after pregnancy. My job duties ranges from allowing new parents to rest uninterrupted or offer light housekeeping to make the living space manageable with the new baby.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of my friends know that I am a homebody who likes to entertain and show off a little in the kitchen. Our visit would include a trip to Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market for fresh meats and veggies and because plants are the vibe among my friends, we would pick up a little bamboo plant from the farmers market or make a trip to the Victorian Atlanta to satisfy our green thumbs.

But, if my bestie insisted on going out for food during the staycation, we would do Breakfast at Barnie’s for brunch, Afternoon tea at St. Regis, or dinner at the Whiskey BB Que in Riverdale to chill and relax.

Atlanta has it all including parks and trails to soak in some nature. We would walk the trails at Panola Mountain State Park or venture down a little further south to Indian Springs State Park with out water bottle to fill up from the “healing spring”.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family consist of a wide range of women entrepreneurs who are start up business owners and seasoned veterans. My family was my first line of resource when I needed assistance with designing my website, utilizing scheduling platforms, and establishing other business matters.
