We had the good fortune of connecting with Latashi Trueheart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latashi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was jump in with both feet. Not really understanding what that meant I started one candle at a time. Every day learning more about myself and the business. I knew my reason for starting the business was to help people feel good about themselves. I want to help release life every day stress with a candle. My thought process was how to make that happen, how do I create a candle that would accomplish that goal. I started researching fragrances and wax combinations. Next was how to reach customers, social media has done its job. At first it was complex figuring out the different tools available. After a few tries social media became a huge marketing tool.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m often asked how I create this amazing candles. The truth is, it’s a gift. Allow me to explain. On April 17th 2000 I suffered a brain aneurysm, leaving me without smell and little taste. So 20 plus years later starting candle making was not ideal. I started by placing pictures of loved ones that has passed on in wax and creating a beautiful candle to honor their memory. Then I became creative making dessert candles and drink candles. I want people to know, it doesn’t matter your disability. When GOD gives you a gift nothing can stop you. I have learned how to depend on faith and family to be successful. When you treat people with love and respect, they will respond positive even when it appears negative. Never stop serving in your purpose, keep moving even if it’s slow walking.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When visiting ATL I would say visit as many site as possible. I have never had a bad meal, the food is amazing. If you’re looking for fun and a workout go to Casade skating rink. Your legs may hurt the next day but you will have loads of fun. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my children, Cornelia, Jada. Myia and Maliyah. Without them I would never have made the choice to start a business. My girls keep me grounded and motivated to keep going. They remind me I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. To the late Bishop Ford for praying over me and the business and my husband Gregory Trueheart for supporting me through my journey.
