Meet Koko Harris | Creative Artist & Master Bartender and Mixologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Koko Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Koko, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Scared money don’t make money and you have to spend money to make money is one of my favorite statements to anybody that considers themselves an entrepreneur or thinking about becoming an entrepreneur and ultimately getting to any goal in life. Risks taking is a must in order to work towards success. You will never know if your business or potential business will succeed or fail if you never take risks. Taking risks in my life and career has generated me two fairly successful businesses that I am still working on bringing all the way to the top. In 2016 I took a risk to start a novelty business with my goal only being to pay for mortuary school so that I didn’t have to take out another student loan. Well I was successful paid for mortuary school and this business continued to take off. D & K Creations and Boutique quickly expanded from just gift baskets, to personalized custom shirts and tumblers, to now offering logos, business signs, invitations and more. In 2020 we were given an opportunity to have some of our items featured in store at Crown Me Boutique located in Birmingham, AL. This opportunity has allowed sales and clientele to increase all because I took an original risk. In 2019 I took another risk to start a mobile bartending business all because I loved making drinks for friends and they kinda hyped me up…..lol. Well the hype and the risk was real but it has been well worth it. I am one of the best bartenders in Birmingham. I am still mastering my gift of bartending and working towards opening up my own Bar and Lounge in the area soon. Although taking these risks were scary and questionable at times, I’m glad I stood on faith and took some risks. “You will never reach your true potential living life in comfort, you have to take some risks.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have three degrees which include an Associates in Business Administration and Management, Bachelors in Criminal Justice and also an Associates in Mortuary Science. I am a full time accountant assistant by day and part time licensed funeral director. I am most passionate about working in the funeral industry. Since age 7 I knew that I wanted to work with the dead and got my first start at age 17 and licensed at age 27. Funeral service is my passion in which I find peace. I got where I am professionally today by setting goals, praying, and trusting God to lead me along the way. Along the way there has been hurdles and times when I wanted to give up but I kept pushing and believing in myself until I manifested what I wanted. I want the world to know that at 31 this is still just the beginning for me I want stop here there is still more for me to accomplish and still more for me to manifest and make happen.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my success to my late father William Calvin “Slim” Harris and my mom Diane. I lost my dad at the age of 15 but in those 15 years he taught me how to be spoiled but most of all he taught me how to make my own money and to always follow my dreams and to work for whatever I wanted . I also dedicate my success to my beautiful mother Diane who is always in my corner and supportive throughout everything I decide to do.
