We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaleesa / Dr. Erika Hardy / Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaleesa / Dr. Erika, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Networking! We cannot stress enough the power of networking. Every time we took the time out to go to a networking event, it has benefited us tremendously. We typically always meet someone who wants to help our organization in any way possible, including introducing us to a friend in the business, donating their time or money, providing resources, or sharing more knowledge in the nonprofit field (which is always a win). We believe some of our most significant contributors have come from striking up a random conversation and meeting new people. Networking can take your business to the next level because it always opens the door to new opportunities!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are ACTS Global Inc. Nonprofit based out of Atlanta, GA. Our mission is to spark the interest of underserved youth to create generational wealth in a global society. What sets us apart from other organizations is our willingness to connect with our youth on their level. We have discovered that most youth are vastly underrecognized for their knowledge, talents, and views about the world and how to create a better society. Our programs provide a creative outlet for our students to unleash those talents to help solve many issues we all face, while also learning how to create generational wealth for their families and communities. Is it easy – absolutely NOT! Children have a keen sense of detecting when someone or something is not genuine, so we strive to establish a nurturing rapport with each student, which can take time and a lot of energy. Still, we put in that effort to see our students become the best versions of themselves. Overall, the main lesson we have learned and still learning is to have patience, keep doing what is needed on our end, and the rest will work its way out!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A friend is in town for the weekend – well, let’s start this weekend off with…

Friday – dinner at the Local Green Atlanta, then a little laughter at the Atlanta Comedy Club

Saturday – Brunch at The Beverly off Glenwood, then either Civil Rights Museum or Aquarium and dinner at Old Lady Gang Southern Cuisine

Sunday – Brunch at then the Trap Music Museum and finally dinner at Two Chain’s Escobar Restaurant & Tapas -since we’re on a music theme 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, we would like to give a huge thanks to all of our friends and family because they have supported us from day one. Many of them do not know about the nonprofit world; however, realizing our passion for helping the youth has sparked their interest. We are forever grateful for their unconditional support. Additionally, there are a few individuals, in particular, we would like to give a special thanks to, and that is Marquita Priester, our tech guru/professor, who specializes in coding for the youth. She currently teaches our tech classes and keeps our kids interested with her hands-on approach! Shawn Craig, who has been there for us since day one. He is our brand manager, photographer, and biggest supporter. We appreciate all of his time and encouragement throughout the years! Lastly, we would like to thank Arafa Crossley and the entire State Farm team, as they have been instrumental in our development over the past year.
