We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Waiting for someone else to tell me when it was time to level up did not settle right with me. I have always been a progressive thinker. I adjust quickly to situations and I try to keep up with the changes that happen in my everyday life. When people think of an educator, they picture a person standing a the front of a classroom calling on raised hands – that simply isn’t my description. I consider myself a guide to children’s learning. I am only here to facilitate their thinking and provide them with rich environments that allow them to succeed. Being able to immerse myself in a variety of learning environments is what sparks my interest in continuing my business ventures.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career as an educator extends beyond the classroom. From the early days of my undergrad studies, I knew I wanted to be involved in children’s learning, but to what extent I wasn’t sure. After graduating and becoming a lead infant/toddler teacher, I knew being in the classroom wasn’t for me. I ventured out and taught gymnastics classes, became a nanny and high school substitute teacher. Still, I wasn’t satisfied. I returned back to the classroom as a Pre-K teacher and fell in love. Not with the classroom setting, but with the idea of being a vital part of a child’s learning. Knowing that I was an important piece in helping them develop into the capable, creative beings I knew they could be. It wasn’t easy being a teacher during a pandemic, but it was one of the best teaching years of my career. I learned things about myself such as what clothing made me comfortable at work, my passion for children’s art, and that I could get to know a child through a mask and they could still get to know me – there were no limitations to forming relationships. I want the world to know that my brand is child-centered and I am only following their lead to see where it can take me next.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Atlanta, GA and there is so much to explore. Sometimes it is a little overwhelming. One of my favorite places to go is the Decatur area. There are a variety of restaurants and nooks and crannies to find. I would certainly take them out for Sushi or for Half-Priced bottles of wine at Barcelona in Virginia Highlands.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a special shoutout to my parents. I can’t remember one Friday night football game or cheerleading competition that they didn’t attend. They have witnessed every major accomplishment in my life from graduations to winning National Cheerleading Championships to giving birth to my child. They encourage me to follow my dreams and my passion and to always keep God first. I haven’t seen a failure without them.
