We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Hires and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what do you attribute your success to?
I’m genuinely myself 100% of the time. Surviving Burnout taught me the importance of not putting on masks or armor to exist in a space. Years of doing that and the armor became too heavy to take off. I burned myself out carrying the weight of expectations that didn’t even belong to me. My Clients, audience, and followers recognize that they are dealing with someone who has been where they are and understands what it takes to help them recover from Burnout. People feel that. Whether it’s a 60 second TikTok video or 60 minute keynote. They feel it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Leadership Burnout Coach, Speaker, Author, host of the Leadership Antidote Podcast and Founder of the Leadership Antidote Academy. My Client portfolio includes organizations with over $1 billion in annual revenue. I combine formal analytical training and coaching to help Leaders develop the mindset and skills needed to become industry Leaders of today and tomorrow. I founded The Nightingale Firm in 2014 after surviving burnout and recognizing that Leaders are seldom trained on how to ensure their well-being. Today, my Firm provides individual coaching services, team dynamic coaching, corporate training and speaking.
As Kimberly A. Hires, PhD, RN, my professional career includes degrees and experiences from some of the top institutions in the US including Johns Hopkins University, the National Institutes of Health, and the University of Miami. I was an award-winning Associate Professor. Today, the world is my classroom and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I get the privilege of working with industry leaders to create burnout proof spaces where their employees can thrive. I wouldn’t describe my journey as easy but every step was made with a heart full of intention.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week in Georgia:
Sunday: Start the morning off with a great brunch made at home by my Husband, Chef Kyle Hires of The AfterGlow Experience. We always treat ourselves to pastries from Galette ATL. They can be found at the Avondale Estates Farmers Market every Sunday. After brunch, go for a stroll at Piedmont Park or Stone Mountain Park.
Monday-Thursday: Being married to a Chef, we are foodies! Some of our favorite spots are Fox Brothers Bar-B-Que, Slim + Husky’s Pizza, The Green Ginger in Decatur, Diamond Dust Cupcakes. The beauty of living in Atlanta is you can find just about every cuisine.
Friday Night: Pizza Friday’s at the Hires’ House. No matter where we are, Friday evenings are for pizza and a movie. It’s a tradition we started with our son a few years ago. Our current favorite is Flippin’ Pizza in Avondale Estates.
We have a 10 year old, so we prefer family-friendly activities. I prefer to visit the museums, Zoo, and Aquarium midweek. With summer approaching, that’s where we’ll be. The splash park in Old Fourth Ward is a family favorite too.
Saturday: Our favorite day to drive to north Georgia and enjoy the mountains and shopping. We love to pick seasonal fruits from Jaemoor Farms. Their peaches are heavenly! If we want to stay local, we try to find shows at the Fox Theatre or some place in the Perimeter.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shonda Rimes’ book, Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person. Her book was life changing for me. I read it as I recovered from Burnout. It helped me to learn how to say, “Yes” and live life less scripted. I learned to pay attention to what I was feeling when I tried things that took me out of my comfort zone. I recommend it to Clients who are recovering from Burnout.
