We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim aka Sassy Craig and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim aka Sassy, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson life period has taught me is to stay consistent and true to self. This has helped me in business and personally.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So my Art and I called Art because I use my imagination for every decision that’s made and every part of every piece to not only Curvy role but also to my fashions as well. My art is self-expression as well as self-love wrapped up in an event and in fashion.
What sets me apart from other skate promoters, other fashion designers, and just others in general is I’m unique and I understand my uniqueness and how I function as a unique being. I’m very proud of the inner work that I’ve done to be able to get to a point in my life where I’m OK with expressing myself be it through the Curvy role or at Custom Fit where I do all my fashion designing and not care what other people think. So I’m very proud of my ability to create freely and how I challenge myself to be better than I was yesterday.
I got to this place of peace I like to call through trials and tribulations. No it was not easy to go through painful transitions, but I see now how necessary it was for me. I went through also a period during my marriage where I was not even sewing or designing and that was very hard for me, because I had no way to express myself. And then I ended up filing for divorce. And it was through that divorce, as well as other issues that were going on, where I found myself professionally and personally. If it wasn’t for those challenges I would not have known the extent of my abilities or learned the much needed lessons. So now I’m excited to push myself even further because I was not aware of the extent of strengths that I had within myself. But now I am!
Some of the lessons that I learned which greatly help me in my success is knowing myself so well that the decisions that I make, be personally or professionally, are based solely on my needs and my desires. I also learned the importance of embracing solitude and knowing my own limits on giving away my energy to those that can’t return it. I also learned exactly what self love is and self-love is part of the reason why I continue to thrive in business because I embrace my flaws as well as my strengths now and I’m able to function under my own possibilities not the worlds.
What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that it was is not perfect to them. But to me it is perfect and that’s only because I surprised myself with making the needed adjustments to continue leveling up. My brand embraces women breaking boundaries because we are boundless. I don’t want to see women setting boundaries because we already are put into a box and it has stifled a lot of us in our capabilities. And a lot of us have made decisions and be personally or professionally based off of those societal boundaries when in reality we should’ve been making decisions that help us to grow. My favorite line is “…if they bury you grow!” We we’re put on this earth to grow if we were meant to stay babies and adhear to a certain order, God would’ve kept us as babies but that’s not what we are here to do, we’re here to be better than we were yesterday and that is what I hope my brand puts across to people that it’s OK to keep leveling up no matter what the naysayers say. No matter what the new devils on the next level say, keep going because we’re all here to inspire one another.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Cleveland: I would tell them to of course come skate with me at the home of Curvy Roll, United Skates and then go hang out at Crocker Park to eat and shop.
In Atlanta: I would tell them to come with me to Sparkles of Smyrna to skate. And go to Rosie’s Cafe by the airport and also go see the underground mall n aquarium.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to: my daughters(Alaina, Alissa, & Amelia), my parents(biggest supporters), people who have shown love with no strings attached and have accepted my love in return.
