Meet Khadija Deshong | Owner of Blushbaby Lash & Makeup Studio, Business Coach and Content Creator for Women over 50

We had the good fortune of connecting with Khadija Deshong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khadija, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Taking your mental health very important especially when you are a business owner. It helps to keep your stress down and prevent burnout, which will make you happier and healthy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been in the beauty industry for 31 years and started working behind the counter at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales & Saks Fifth avenue. I was the manager for MAC cosmetics, Laura Mercier, YSL Beauty, Nars Cosmetics,

While working for MAC cosmetics i started doing makeup at Fashion week for MAC and being the Key Makeup Artist for Jason Wu & Zac Posen.

After that I did makeup on Ashanti, Jennifer Hudson, Regina King, Natalie Cole, Tamia, Sanaa Lathan, Nick Cannon, Usher, and more.

In December, 11 2011 BlushBaby was born in Buckhead Atlanta and is the 1st Lash & makeup Studio in Buckhead Atlanta. We will be 13 years next month!!

Being a manager for those beauty lines, having a team, working for those amazing stores, traveling the world doing makeup for celebrities definitely helped me with what I learned to open my own business.

I have a team of 2 lash stylist, 4 makeup artists, and a waxer & threader.

It is hard being a entrepreneur. There as always ups & downs but you have to learn to ride the wave and surround yourself with like minded individuals, friends that uplift, inspire and motivate you. Join different networking groups of like minded people.

I host a monthly Wind down Wednesday for entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners at Apt 4b.

I’ve learned that your mental health is sooooo important. You must prioritize selfcare so you can be the best you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
