We had the good fortune of connecting with Kesha and Katy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kesha and Katy, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Definitely partnering with each other!!!! We both were newly divorced and navigating a new way of life when we met, became friends, started to work together and eventually becoming business partners. The blessing of having someone to take the reins when you can’t is something you don’t take for granted. The saying “it takes a village” is also true for a business. Our village started with a partnership.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We wear multiple hats of being an owner and creator. So our success is dual I suppose. The ability to have a home base to showcase our own jewelry is definitely exciting. Adding to that we have been able to create a space that allows other creatives to showcase and sell their work without the formalities of set contracts, high commissions, freedom to take pieces back at any time etc…… the latter is also a great accomplishment for us. Finding the locations may have been the hardest part, but once we did it wasn’t too difficult finding artists to join us. Honesty and transparency about the business was the best way to be successful. We have no formal business training so we learnt our lessons along the way. The biggest lesson we’ve learned is not giving up!!! If plan A doesn’t work, go to plan B and so forth. Our brand represents a multitude of all the good vibes we want to promote in the world: inclusivity, diversity, joy, passion, creativity, unity etc….. we want the world to know that KSquared “has a peace for all”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Katy and I are total opposites for socializing, but we do enjoy good food, dancing, new experiences. Katy would take her friend to hang gliding while I would take mine to a book reading LOL.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There isn’t just one individual. If it weren’t for all the artisans who had faith in us when we started the business we wouldn’t be here. So a heartfelt shout out first to all our artisans, second to all our loyal customers, and third to our friends and family members who have cheered us on.
