We had the good fortune of connecting with Katurah Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katurah, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When it was time to name my company, I wanted to choose a name that had meaning. I started with Fotos by Katurah but then decided that I didn’t want to use my name in my company’s name. After doing some research, I asked a friend whose husband was Nigerian, “How do you say Photographer in your native tongue?” I was told that the closet word to photographer was E-ton, which meant history recorder. That was perfect. As photographers, we record our client’s events and milestones, forever freezing those moments. So from that day forward, Itan( pronounced E-ton) became my company name.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie so we would go to Season 52, Tuk Tuk, and to The Mill kitchen and Bar in Roswell. We would visit the historical Martin Luther King monument and people watch on Auburn Ave. Then we would spend some time on the beltline in Inman Park. Our evenings would be spent at the Sweet Georgia Juke Joint and cafe 92 listening to local jazz artist.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, there are so many folks that deserve a shoutout. Besides my family, my very supportive friends and clients I would say 1. Derrel Todd of Footprints Fotos located in Washington, DC 2. APG- Marc Turnley 3.Truecolor Creative- Vincent Christie 4. Photog4her- Tonesha Smith
