We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalyn Farmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalyn, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I hope I’ve given my children is the confidence to be unapologetically themselves. I want them to know they can chase big dreams, work hard, and never let anyone tell them they aren’t capable. I’ve always believed that actions speak louder than words, so I try to lead by example, showing them resilience, kindness, and that it’s okay to fail as long as you get back up and keep fighting.

At the end of the day, success isn’t measured by trophies or titles. If my kids grow up knowing they’re deeply loved, believing in themselves, and treating others with respect, then I’ll consider that my greatest accomplishment as a parent.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m Kalyn Farmer, better known as The Rock Queen. I’m a band manager, booking agent, social media manager, and PR professional with Massive Media MS. I love helping artists grow their careers by building their online presence, connecting them with fans, booking shows, and creating opportunities that help them get to the next level.

Through Massive Media MS, I work with bands all across the country, from up-and-coming artists to nationally recognized acts. My goal has always been simple—to work hard, build lasting relationships, and help musicians get the recognition they deserve. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching an artist succeed and knowing I played a small part in helping them get there.

I come from a music family, so music has always been a part of who I am. Growing up in Yazoo City, Mississippi, my dad owned two local bars where he booked bands, and he was also part of a duo called Whiskey Shots. They played cover songs at venues around the Jackson area, including places like Shuckers Oyster Bar. I spent a lot of my childhood surrounded by live music, and I fell in love with the atmosphere.

My mom was always incredibly supportive of our love for music. She never cared how loud we played it—she’d usually end up dancing and singing right along with us. My stepdad is a self-taught guitarist, so music was always filling our home. Looking back, it’s no surprise I ended up in the music industry.

Getting started wasn’t easy. I had a lot stacked against me. As a new woman in the industry, there were people who felt I hadn’t “earned my stripes” or didn’t deserve the opportunities I was getting. I had to work hard to earn people’s trust and prove I belonged. At the same time, I was going through a difficult divorce and dealing with a lot of false accusations and unfair labels, including being called the stereotypical “groupie” and much worse.

Instead of letting it break me, it became my motivation. Every obstacle pushed me to work harder, learn more, and prove that I belonged. Looking back now, I’m grateful for those challenges because they helped shape me into the person I am today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit for a week, we’d definitely spend most of it chasing live music.

We’d kick things off here in Brandon, Mississippi, with dinner at Cameron’s Garage. The food is always great, and there’s almost always live music to keep the night going. After that, we’d head over to Black Axes—another local favorite with awesome live bands, great drinks, and some of the best late-night pizza around.

From there, we’d make our way down to Biloxi, Mississippi, because that’s where I truly feel at home. I’ve built an incredible music family there, and there’s no shortage of amazing people and places. One stop would absolutely be The Hot Spot Bistro & Lounge. You never know if you’ll discover your next favorite underground band or catch a national act passing through town. It’s one of those places with a little magic—you might even leave with a love story.

Of course, we’d also have to spend a night at The Sanctuary Biloxi. They bring in some incredible touring artists, and every show feels like an experience. If you’re a live music fan, it’s a place you have to visit.

For me, the perfect week isn’t about tourist attractions—it’s about live music, good food, great friends, and the incredible rock and metal community we’ve built along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. That’s where you’ll find some of the best memories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much of my journey to the people who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. It all started with a local Mississippi band, Storage 24. Through promoting them, I was introduced to Matt Savner, CEO of Massive Media MS, and that single connection completely changed the course of my career.

I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to learn from some amazing industry professionals. Dawn McIntyre was the first to truly take me under her wing. She taught me the foundations of artist management and booking, and her guidance gave me the confidence to step into this industry. Kevin Furlow has also been an incredible mentor, generously sharing his knowledge and experience after spending years booking and tour managing for legendary artists like Journey and Def Leppard.

Most of all, I have to thank Matt Savner. He took a chance on a newly single mom of three who had a passion for music and a willingness to work hard. He gave me the opportunity to grow, learn, and build a career I never imagined possible. Because of that opportunity, I’ve become “The Rock Queen”—working in social media management, artist management, booking, public relations, and helping bands achieve their dreams every single day.

None of us get where we are alone, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has invested their time, knowledge, and belief in me along the way.
