We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Roman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At this point in my life being a business owner means everything to me. It brings me great satisfaction leading my company and knowing that we are providing valuable information to impact our community. Our goal is to ultimately help change the mindset of athletes all over the world in a positive way. 50 Sports Company inspires our athletes to be more than just an athlete. 50 Sports Company was inspired by my personal experience. After my time on the football field was finish I felt lost, because football had been my life for so long. I wondered if I was alone in my struggles or if other athletes shared a similar story. As I begin to discuss my experience I found out that I was not alone and many of my former college teammates were suffering just like me due to lack of preparation for life after sports. Life after sports can be one of the most difficult times for an athlete especially if not properly prepared. One of our goals as a company is to educated and prepare our athletes for life after sports. We strive to prepare our athletes mentally, physically and emotionally for transitioning from sports. We create opportunities for our athletes to achieve their goals for life after sports. “50 Sports” was first designed to only train athletes but after much thought and consideration; I decided that I want to impact more than just the training aspect or sports. So with that in mind I designed a company that will inspire, build, and motivate athletes to be more mindful of the preparation aspect of life after sports. My experiences lead me to create 50 Sports Company where our athletes are more than just an athlete.
What should our readers know about your business?
50 Sports Company is one of a kind, we are a sports company that offers a multitude of services to help our athletes be more than just an athlete. To gain additional information visit our website 50SportsCompany.com. As a company we are most excited about seeing the finish product. After witnessing many of my former teammates and other athletes face these adversities like myself, it brings me joy knowing that we are doing our part and helping future athletes and their families better prepare for life after sports. Reaching this point in my life has definitely been a tough road. However, I’ve had a great support system from family, friends and co-workers. The most challenging thing to me is balancing communication with others and relationships. Building a business from the ground up takes a lot of your personal time and attention. However, I’m willing to sacrifice my time and attention to build a great company and know that ultimately I am fulfilling my purpose that God has shown me. A few tips that has helped me grow my business: 1. Limit your social media usage as much as possible; unless you’re on your business accounts to answer DMs, creating post, or promoting your business limit your time. Instagram can give off illusions that can cause you to miss growth within your business. 2. Limit your time with people that are not trying to accomplish similar goals as you, these may be your close friends, and it’s fine to continue to be friends just limit your interactions with them or challenge them to set goals and accomplish them together. 3. Do right by others, I can’t stress this enough. I’ve been in situations where doing the wrong thing felt like the right thing to do but always remember what goes around comes around. I leave you with this, if we want to see change in your life whether financially, emotionally, or physically we must be willing to sacrifice in order to create change.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out the kids at Stoneview Elementary (Lithonia, GA) and Drew Charter School (Atlanta, GA). These kids helped shape me into the man I have become today. Learning from a diverse group of students, my passion for service became my mission and purpose in life. After 5 years of teaching and building relationships with these wonderful kids, I learned how to listen and understand them. It reformed my outlook on life. I would not be standing where I am today without my teaching experiences. Each and every student that I’ve encountered has played a part in my development and today I say thank you. I also have to thank God for directing me on this path, even when I lacked understanding.
