We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan & Kristin Cokley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan & Kristin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My husband loved to cook. When my parents would come to visit, he always cooked for the family, particularly on Sundays. My parents were the ones who actually suggested he start his own business
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This has definitely been a struggle to walk out the life of an entrepreneur. Being a food truck owner, learning the food industry, and navigating everything in between has been a lot of work but worth it. When we serve the community, whether it be through catering, or doing various festivals, we get to see the expressions of people who love our food, and it makes all the difference.
We’ve learned to ask for help, do the research before jumping into business; with a business partner, work together and not against each other. We’ve also learned to find balance. We are a husband and wife business team. We have children, and my wife still works full time. We have to make time to spend together as a family and as husband and wife.
We are JC’S KITCHEN Food Truck and catering business. We make Southern cuisine from the heart. My husband is from South Carolina, and he finds joy in cooking!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in Southern Maryland. There are so many restaurants to try. We love Skippers Pier, a seafood restaurant on the water. The Piano Keys is a music lounge that has live bands and good food!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To our parents for believing, motivating, and investing in our gifts and our future
