We had the good fortune of connecting with Jolie Reine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jolie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
When it comes to being a published author I don’t think that people realize how difficult it is to complete a manuscript. Finishing thoughts, stories, visions, etc. and turning them into a complete work of art takes a lot of patience and consistency. Once you have successfully finished the first draft; the hard part is over.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer for others like myself. My books are for grown folks only. I read a lot of urban novels and none of them was I able to identify with. My book I could see myself existing in or being another character in it. As a member of the 30 plus club I wanted my circles to read and understand where the main character was coming from. I show black love in a different light. I’ve learned along the way to always trust my gut instinct and always promote myself no matter what. When I am anywhere I promote my brand because you never know when someone needs an escape from their reality to tap into my world for a few pages.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eats: Busy Bees, Oceannaire, Atlanta Fish Market, Plant Based Pizzeria, Happy Hour: McCormick & Schmidt’s, Tom Dick & Hank, La Parilla
Hang out: Ponce City Market, belt line, High Museum
Anything in the city of Atlanta can be exciting with the right crowd. Any weekend where there is a festival or concert can be historic and fun (which seems to be every weekend).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I always have to shout out my mentor Cherie McRae. She held my hand the entire process after me finishing my first draft. She helped me take Confetti from just some thoughts on my laptop to a published novel. I would also like to shout to my friends for standing in and helping me push myself to not only finish but make the storyline make sense. They were my first pair of eyes. If not for an assignment from my therapist I wouldn’t be sitting here to share this love story.
