We had the good fortune of connecting with Joi Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joi, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Out of my experiences with womanhood and motherhood, I birthed HoneyDew’s Treasures. Many women expressed their concerns about feeling alone as mothers, and I wanted to create a safe space for them to feel heard and validated. My goal is to deeply engage in issues concerning women by providing support, healing, encouragement, empowerment, and love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My unique ability to remain positive and create a platform that pours into women mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sets me apart from others. I’ve seen many people in my position become burnt out and lose their drive in this line of work. When I show up, I understand my assignment and status. I am so proud I get to do work that is my passion. I know I’m setting an example for my daughters and others to follow their dreams and make a living doing just that. I can balance my mental and physical health, which is a significant plus.
I majored in Social Work. Helping others has always been a passion for me. I have always been deeply invested in the well-being of women and children. Being a teen mom allowed me to learn quickly about the hardships of a woman. I saw my mom take care of everyone else around her but neglected to take care of herself. As a result, she felt empty and dealt with many health issues due to stress. When I looked around my family, I noticed a generational cycle that needed to be broken. Surprisingly, many women have the same story, and I feel it’s time to change the narrative.

This journey has not been easy. Breaking old thinking patterns is difficult. You notice the struggles; women are expressing that it’s hard, there are solutions, and because it looks different from what they are used to, they are scared to test the water. The struggle is finding ways to encourage women to think differently and make other choices for different outcomes. I feel overcoming these challenges is to gain the trust of the women seeking my services. The lessons I learned along the way are that perhaps the goal is not to change how we feel but to understand our emotions and learn ways to mitigate the unpleasantness, and slowing down to attend to our immediate experiences allows us to surrender to the flow of life.

I am here because I once was the one who was judged, overlooked, written off, and didn’t understand my emotions. I had to embark on a journey of self-love that enabled me to be confident in who I am. This journey has taught me to embrace myself with all my imperfections, which show up as my authentic self. HoneyDew’s Treasures want to work with women to create the freedom to be their authentic selves so they can live the life they desire without being apologetic.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love nature and having a place to escape mentally. I would take my friends to Sweetwater Creek Park for a nice hike. We would pack salads or sandwiches and listen to the water. Do some grounding and just breathe. At night, we would visit Punch Bowl at the Battery. The next day, we would visit Cloverland Ranch to go ATV mudding and horseback riding. Later we would go to Soigne’ Garden for a girls’ night. Before they leave, we would visit Jeju Sauna for self-care activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughters are my primary reasons for my success, motivation, and experiences. I have a great support system encouraging me to continue showing up as my best self so I can help others.
