Today we’re excited to be connecting with Jewel Baker again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Jewel, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
My name is Jewel Baker, and I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. My work spans various creative fields, including Film Directing, Photography, Graphic Design, Event Production, and Model Coaching. I am also the founder of Jewel In Focus, a company I launched in 2018, where I bring bold creative visions to life. In Spring 2024, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Film and Television and a minor in Photography.

Beyond my personal artistry, I had the honor of delivering a TEDx Talk in 2024 and have collaborated with various platforms to foster creative connections. My journey began at just nine years old when I joined Visions Blu, a film and journalism program that ignited my passion for storytelling and the film industry. Later, at Lindblom Math and Science Academy, I explored multiple creative disciplines—joining the Dance Team, serving as Co-Captain of the Drumline, and co-founding S.W.A.P. (Students With a Purpose) alongside Kimani Bishop, Shadiya Ewing, and Haille Minor. S.W.A.P. was designed to create a safe space for students to connect with Chicago’s fashion scene, and since 2018, we have led over 200 models and collaborated with more than 40 designers.

During my time at Columbia College Chicago, I took on leadership roles such as Head Engage Leader, President & Director of Communications for the Student Programming Board, and was honored as a Student Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. I was also featured on Amazon Prime’s The College Tour, where I highlighted my academic and creative journey.

Since graduating, I have continued to expand my brand, work on various productions, and contribute to my community through my role at a Chicago-based nonprofit organization. My mission remains the same—to create, connect, and uplift through the power of storytelling and art.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Life has been unfolding in the most beautiful way possible. I’ve been able to fully immerse myself in my art while also fostering a strong sense of community. Since our last conversation, I’ve continued expanding my work across film, photography, fashion, and event production, collaborating with talented creatives and growing my brand.

Beyond my professional journey, I’ve been prioritizing balance—rediscovering hobbies like yoga, meditation, crochet, and traveling, which have brought me a renewed sense of peace and inspiration. I’ve had the chance to visit new cities for the first time, including Los Angeles and Charlotte, and I have a few exciting trips planned that I can’t wait to embark on.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about upcoming creative projects, collaborations, and new opportunities to push my artistic boundaries. I’m also embracing this period of growth, both personally and professionally, and I’m eager to see where this evolving journey takes me next.

What would the perfect day look like for you? Please give us as many details as possible.
A perfect day for me would start with waking up early to watch the sunrise at the beach or from a scenic view, all while sipping on a warm cup of herbal tea—a peaceful and refreshing way to begin the morning.

After that, I’d treat myself to a delicious breakfast of waffles and strawberries or a fresh smoothie, fueling up for the day ahead. Then, I’d get ready and embark on a staycation adventure, taking the Amtrak to explore a new city. My ideal itinerary would include immersing myself in the local culture, visiting a cultural festival, and soaking in the vibrant energy of the experience.

To wrap up the day, I’d return home and indulge in a seafood boil. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and amazing food—everything I love in one day.
