We had the good fortune of connecting with Jawon Chisholm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jawon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I just wanted to help people. I knew a lot about training and sports just through my own experience and felt like people needed help building confidence to stay in shape and train their bodies.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It wasn’t easy getting here. Before starting my Struggle to Succeed I was driving 18-wheeler trucks across the country. Depressed and just lost with my sense of purpose trying to figure things out. I always had a strong mindset and was able to bounce back which led me to quit that job and bet on myself.

I started Struggle to Succeed out of my garage and to see where it is today is a blessing. Given our success, we’re only at 20% of our potential right now and have a long way to go. I try to take things step by step with building this brand. Struggle to Succeed has a uniqueness that our competitors don’t have. Which is the personalization aspect of the business. We pay so much attention to the details and are focused on providing long-term results for our clients. We hold them accountable for showing up to classes as well so that makes us a “coach away from the gym”. One of the biggest differences is the mental coaching aspect. We’re not just focused on explosion or losing weight. We’re focused on confidence as well. It’s hard to reach goals without confidence so we focus on building that within our clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I’m in a mode right now where I’m focused on growing the brand so I’m not out a lot. When I’m not working I’m spending time with my family. Whatever that friend and myself would do most likely would involve my wife and family as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of people who helped me on my journey and still are today. Great people like some of my past coaches, family, and parents all played a role in my success up to this point. Bryan Majors is a friend of mine who I also respect a lot. Others like Zach Wiest, Ty Little, and my Wife have also provided value to the business from an advisory standpoint. There are so many others but the fact is, no one does this alone and it’s great having the help that we have up to this point.
